Well things were looking up really well. he has had a major set back. My mom and grandma went to visit him before visiting hours were over. I opted to stay home and find somthing for dinner for every one, becuase well, no one has had time to eat or cook in 36+ hours. as they were leaving the room, They said all the equipment went crazy and doctors had to rush in and revive him. the phamonia(sp?) is clearing up, but now his heart is weaker. They are oing tests and will call us as soon as they find out. right now he is on blood thinner to keep it pumping through his heart well. This is the worst nightmare ever.

He sounds like a fighter. When you go see him, tell him you're waiting for him to get out so he can watch you and Blaze run the agility course.

((((((((((HUGS))))))))))) Keep the faith.

Just a quick update. he is doing so much better. Now he isnt isolated, the doors can be open, you dont have to wear a gown, gloves and mask to visit with him, which is so nice. They are going to start weaning him of off the breathing tube soon. He is doing alot better, no more infection, his heart is doing better, no more build up in his lungs which is all great. he is still sedated, but seems to be trying to come out of it. he moves alot, opens his eyes, and yawns all the time lol

Ok so a update.

Tomorrow they will be removing all tubes, breathing and such. he is doing 90% of the breathing. They think he may have brain damage and are not sure what will happen. Either way its in grandpas hands tomorrow, to fight, or let go. Its up to him. We had a big discussion with the doctor. only options were

1) remove it and see what happens (which is what we picked)

2) remove it and put in another one.

3) do the trag.. how ever you spell it, where they due a operation to put a tube in.

We chose number 1 since it is in grandpas best intrests. None of us want him hooked to machines forever. so we will see what tomorrow brings...

At least with Tom it was a touch and go and we chose #1 . He was on for 4 days and if on longer there may have been no return . He came back well and enjoyed 2 more years of life . ((( Hugs )))

sometimes being on the vent gives the lungs a chance to heal since the vent does a lot of the work. If he was breathing above the vent settings on his own.. that's a sign he was heading in the right direction. I often tell people that with the babies and the elderly.. it's common to take a few steps forward and a few steps backward during the recovery phase of an illness or trauma to the body.

He does sound like a fighter from the way you've described him. I hope all goes well when they extubate him and that he will be able to breathe on his own with out difficulty. He will be in my prayers. ((((hugs)))))
