I was looking over their site today, and reading in the FAQ general page, #5 says how bad merel to merel breeding is. Then in #6 they turn right around and say THEY breed merel to merel sometimes, because they have no choice. I know there is a choice on that- DON'T. I thaught they were a really good breeder of working dogs. I have been considering a working Aussie as well, however not from them now. Am I missing something about the merel to merel thing?

"because they have no choice" ?!?!!!

Seriously?

I have minimal knowledge about Aussie breeding, but even I know this is a big NO. No other dogs from other reputable breeders that they could stud out to? No option of lets say... skipping a breeding instead of breeding merle x merle?! There is no NEED to breed a merle to merle as far as I know, EVER.

Not a breeder I would personally support. It isn't like Aussie's are some rare breed that requires every single individual to breed so the gene pool doesn't die out. With AI, they can find males all over the country, if not the world (not sure if you can ship semen overseas-the things we talk about here :D ).
I can't see any reason where a merle-merle cross would be ness. in this breed.

Thanks ya'll! I didn't think there was ever an OK time to do that. They are for sure off my list. I'm glad I caught that.

I have seen some working breeders that breed merle to merle (BCs and koolies). To me it is just as bad as show or byb people breeding merle to merle. There is NO reason to do these breedings. None whatsoever.

It also seems very counterproductive to breeding good working dogs if a fourth of your pups are likely to be double merle and have serious health issues that will likely bar them from being able to do the work.

So yes, I don't buy it. Where are you seeing that on their site though?

Pincie is very old school in a lot of the ways they do things; they've been around and have had some amazing dogs in their time. Back when they started, MxM was much more common, as was the practice of culling the resulting PW pups. Some people don't change the way they do things. I don't buy the "no choice" thing though, not in this age. Pincie has a lot of the lines I like, but a few things about them in particular means I'll never get a dog from them.

Its on the FAQ general page, on question #6. It completely contradicts what they say in question #5.

My sister got her dog from a woman who repeatedly breed M to M. It makes me sick! Especially seeing as my sister says she will get another one from her because she is not a "snobby show breeder". PUKE!!!!!
