Because every time I move somewhere new I have to check out what they've got in the shelter....

Though $375 for a shelter dog....for a rescue that comes with training and everything sure....but a shelter dog living in a kennel and only comes with basic vet care?

This dog has the saddest story, it's not horrific it's just...sad. And he's been in rescue a while.

On 9/30/13, Waldo weighed 52.9 lbs. and was estimated at about 7 years of age. His rescuer thought he had demodex (a genetic form of mange), but a microscopic examination of a veterinary skin scrape discounted that in favor of allergies. Waldo did, however, test positive for Erhlichia (E. Canis), Lyme disease, and hookworms and had a bad eye infection, plus a hernia protruding from his belly which had never been stitched up. Erhlichia is commonly referred to as tick fever because it is transmitted by the Brown Dog Tick if the tick has fed on an animal infected with Erhlichia. Erhlichia causes anemia and low blood platelets--preventing coagulation of the blood--and, sometimes, results in limping. Waldo was treated with 250 mg of the antibiotic Doxycycline twice a day for a month for the tick-transmitted diseases. The vet prescribed Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates and Bacitracin Zinc Ophthalmic Ointment twice a day in both eyes for two weeks to clear up Waldo's conjunctivitis (green mucoid discharge).
Yes, that means he peacefully co-habitates with the approximately 20 other dogs (ranging from 14 to 120 lbs.) in his foster home. At first, he was just as distant with the other resident dogs as he was at first with his foster mom. But after about 3 months even though they hadn't always been kind to him, he decided to get friendly and tussle with them.
Given his "druthers," Waldo would spend ALL of his time tracking at a fairly energetic pace, with his nose to the ground, on the 8-acre fenced property surrounding his foster home. The worst case was 16 hours one day without consuming food or water prior to being let out outside.

When we were at the beach last weekend, Abrams and Cinder made doggy friends with two generic ACD/Catahoula/Cur things (that looked similar to Nala). Perfect size and athleticism, great personalities. Made me reconsider my retriever want. ;)

And then a client had a little Lab mix girlie who I doted on the other day. She was also perfect.

Really need a medium sized, short haired, young adult female dog to fall into my lap. Who is social with people and other dogs, good with critters, and kid friendly. Also must love water, and wrestling, and be handler oriented enough to be taught to be trustworthy off leash. (I don't ask for much, right?!)
