I just got introduced to the wonderful world of petfinder... I (already) found my dream dog. I've always loved a Husky and I found one! It's soo cute... Now I have to do some major convincing to a certain pair of people to let me! I'm technically "not allowed" haha. How should I do the convincing?
"I'll do all the chores, pay with my own money," hahaha sound like a kid doing this. :rofl1: The problem? Family doesn't want a big dog.

It's definitely not local, I live in Florida yes but not close by this place, I'm more closer to the Florida Keys lol. Well I went to "Breed Section" and clicked Husky and it was one of the first. On the photo there are two husky pups, one blond-ish and the other brown and blond. So adorable!! They're my background now on my desktop.

Forgive the unsolicited advice, but picking a dog based on the first cute one that popped up isn't exactly the best way to go about it. Also, and just because I can't help myself...do you think it's fair to the dog to have a Husky in Florida? That's literally polar opposite from the climate they were bred for.

Sorry to seem so ignoring to the facts of climate. I've seen tons of people in Florida with Huskys and I'm not going to get the dog, but I wish... it's a dream dog. It's basically just a fantasy. But there's this Parson Russell Terrier on there I'm completely in love with that would fit my lifestyle just perfectly...
And oh yeah, I agree, picking the first one cute isn't the right way. But it's okay because I've seen millions of cute ones before, and I read the info before looking at the pics.

Now are you sure you're ready for a Husky? If she was an adult and we would therefore know a lot about temperament i would not be saying this but since you're getting a pup you need to be careful. huskies NEED lots of exercise and tend to have high prey drives and for some that means little dogs are prey. I'm not saying these guys will but it's certainly possible. They do look like mixes for sure though, these are them right? They ARE cute though! Which do you like? http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10796810

but here, everyone needs to research breeds before they buy, heck out this site and look at the links under "general Siberian husky information" http://www.shca.org/

LOL have you owned a terrier before? PRTs are becoming more laid back and less 'true to type' than JRTs (thanx to being bred to look pretty vs be useful) but still have JRT ancestry not to far back :D

Yes those are the gorgeous pups I was talking about. I like the blonde one :)
I've actually never owned a Parson Russell before, I've owned other kinds of Terriers though such as the yorkshire terrier. How big do they normally get to be? (if any of you have//had one before)
ha... to be pretty, not useful :D

Umm just A word of advice since i own a husky your gonna want to do lots of research before even considering. Because there not for everyone they may look pretty but they love to run and need that energy fueled. That puppyness doesent go away. mine is 2 and still very much a puppy just hope your know what your getting into. There a great dog dont get me wrong i love her to death and will get another when i move out but they need alot of time and commitment on the owners part you caint just walkt them when you feel like it they need a schedule i walk her at least once a day.

Well Parson russells are very new.. so not to likely they are in rescue. Parson Russells are 12-15 inches. Jack Russells are 10-15 inches.

JRT/PRT are to yorkies as a race car is to a volkswagon bug. They are both terriers but JRTs are the ULTIMATE terrier. (and PRTs can be less so)

Thanks for the advice everybody. Okay, I've done tons of research on Jack Russells because I've met several recently and always have loved them and believed it's right for me. :) Are they easy to bring traveling, especially if you have a small car? (what i mean is, can you bring them along easily in small crates?) And I'm not going to walk the dog just "when I feel like it", it's going to be once every day.

before you decide on a JRT make sure you understand a few things:

They should NEVER be left unattended with other dogs, they tend to have aggression towards them. Some JRTs will be aggressive enough to never be aloud to interact with other dogs (if you rescue an adult over two years chances are you'll already know if he's this bad so you will be able to avoid it, if you get a puppy then it's a gamble, either way he should still never be left alone with other dogs).

They should never be left unattended with small children, they will not put up with rough handling.

They need LOTS of exercise for both the body and mind, this means your one walk a day plus plenty of playing in a fenced in yard off leash each day and training to work her brain. (is your yard fenced?)

These dogs will go after small game like squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, cats etc. so should not be off leash in an unfenced area.

Have you read this stuff?

I'm sure JRT owners (we have a few who are very active here) can help you more to be sure you are choosing the right breed. My main concern for you is energy and dog aggression, they are very active dogs and just a walk will not be enough. I don't think more walks are needed but lots of ACTIVE (makes them pant hard) play is needed as well as intense training. They are very intelligent animals so training should be fun for you and the dog.

Thanks!
Yes, my yard is fenced and I'll be sure to spend about an hour(or more) a day with exercise and toys like tennis balls and frisbees and tug-of-wars and all of that. I know this may sound...weird...but I've always wanted a hyper dog that needed exercise like so (maybe I'll get a little fit myself, lol). Are they easy to bring traveling, especially if you have a small car? (what i mean is, can you bring them along easily in small crates?)

Im not sure I understand your question. They are small therfore yes they fit in small crates. Does that make them good travelers? No. Every dog is different.

IMHO a Yorkie doesnt qualify as JRT ready. As allready stated. JRTs are in a leage of thier own.

Huskies are NOT a breed for an inexperianced owner. 1 hrour a day whont cut it. They need a hour walk or two a day, not to mention other mental stimulation.

Okay, I've got my choices narrowed down to:
a) Yorkie
b) Maltese
c) Unknown rescue

And they all seem to fit my needs PERFECTLY. :) I'm getting a new pup this summer surely, and I just have to pick from these... I guess I'll take basically whatever comes my way and I'll definitely be ready. (Trust me I research every single dog breed there is)

Yeah I know, a Maltese seems to fit more of my situation here than the JRT. (I did some last minute research and figured out that the JRT didn't really fit my lifestyle. :/

Good for you for doing research! I know a lot of my friends talk about getting a puppy or dog and they know nothing about the breed. As well as people randomly jumping into breeds like Border collies because they do well in sports like agility and flyball, without doing any research.

Its important you find a breed that would fit everything you want from a dog, as well as everything you have to offer.

Glad to see you are adopting! You will get a wonderful pet out of it I bet!

Yeah, I really want to adopt. I've actually never adopted before so I got a book called "Adopting a Dog" and it's a good book that has tons of facts to know.
Hm... now I just have to wait until the kids are out of school so they can also train the pup durring summer.
