This may be hard to believe, but I've got Khana's pedigree traced back 56 generations in one area! There are some incredible chow pedigree databases online and since she has some well-known chows in her background, I was able to just keep going back and back until I hit the very first chows registered. This is back into the 1800's. It was fun going back through but it sure gets complicated trying to keep it all straight - I was printing off various pedigrees and then marking them as to generations, indicating which dog in the last generation on each pedigree that I was researching next, etc.
Of course, now I just have a huge pile of papers that really mean nothing, but I can at least say "I know her relatives 56 generations back!! *LOL*

I paid for a 16 generation pedigree on Dixie. I had the 4 gen onbe, until Daizy was born and I thought maybe her disability was genetic, so that started a generation search. Went back far enough to rule out any genetic faults. (ones that will affaect anything anyway)It is neat to learn where your baby came from.

The BC hasn't had a formal studbook very long compared to some breeds, and there's giant holes where it's really easy to run into a "NR" dead end - even just a few generations ago.
I have two dogs whose ancestors were mostly hill-bred, though their near relations were National and Supreme Champions (ie, parents or grandparents). That's the way it often works.
My pup, however, is from really old, famous lines (for BCs). Oddly, although I'm a real freak for pedigrees and love to play the pedigree tracing game, I didn't do it when I purchased Ted. It wasn't until his papers arrived from ABCA (which include a five generation ped), that I sat down and started going back from the sixth and on - he's got several lines that are traceable back to the foundation dogs of the breed. My old Ben dog is similiarly bred and that is true of him too.
You can get back to Old Hemp, Loos II, the Caps, etc, on most working BCs, pretty easily, first because the documentation is there, and second because in terms of dog generations, many of them aren't that far away. Working BCs tend to be bred late in life compared to show dogs - first litters not until three or four on males, sometimes later on bitches. I had one dog that went back to the late sixties (the time of the famous Wiston Cap, but he had no Cap himself) in only three generations - that's darn close to human generations.

I traced Windy back to the boat (the first Siberians imported). It took me months and going through a lot of old books that I have collected over the years, as well as going through a lot of internet sites. At one point I had it all printed and mapped on a wall of my house. I did it for fun, it was very neat.
DARN YOU ALL! You made me want to trace Maya back as far as I can, but I am just getting myself confused....

Maya's got CH Bruda Demands Pride in her pedigree as her Dam's Dam's Sire and from what I have found now Demand is also her Sire's Sire's Dam's Sire... thats as far as I have gotten so far.
I know you had mentioned before that Your dog's breeder had a pretty thorough (sp) pedigree on her dogs. Do you think she would have one on Demand?

I have no clue where to go from here...
