i did it through google, but if the last name in the pedigree didnt work i would type in his offsprings name, cause then you normally get a 5 gen pedigree so it would say the furthest aways sire/dam and grandsire/dam

Iliamnasquest, do you use a program to keep things straight? I currently have mine in an Excel document, but it's hottibly bulky and hard to navigate!

*LOL* ... I have a huge pile of word documents in table format - no, I don't use a program! I just put 5-6 generations on each page and use a numbering system to indicate the generations back from Khana and where I've gone on to other pages. Some of the pedigrees I was able to just print straight off of online pedigrees, which was handy. There are some massive databases for chows, luckily, and that is the only reason I was able to go that far back.

I've only really concentrated on the first six generations, researching them as to health mostly. I went through the OFA database and searched each dog for certifications, and did other online searches for any dog that wasn't listed in the OFA database. It was very time consuming!

well, I was able to go back two more generations on Maya's dam's side.
Still nothing on her Sire's side though

DARN YOU ALL! You made me want to trace Maya back as far as I can, but I am just getting myself confused....

Do you just go to Google and type in the last known dog?

Google can definitely help. I also surfed just about every single Siberian breeder site on the internet, as well, reading pedigrees. I had paper pedigrees I'd collected over the years from other breed history enthusiasts. I also had my books. It's a collaboration of different sources and it can take time but it is definitely fun.
