So Last night Fleetwood went with my friend (Jordan) to play with the dogs that he watches all the time. They were playing fetch with the chuck-it, which they always do- but it can get pretty intense. When Fleetwood came home, he could hardly walk :yikes:
Jordan said that Buddy, a 70ish lb GSP, smashed into his hip area full speed, sending him into a barrel roll... I panicked, checking him up and down for any breaks or soreness or injury, but couldn't find anything. The worst of the limping was coming from a back leg.
Later on, I noticed he was licking at his foot, and with a more through examination, I saw the injury to his pad. Its not a deep cut or anything, but the surface of the pad has sort of peeled off in a really unusual way. It goes all the way down to his webbing (but hasn't affected the webbing area) so he must have cut it on something. It didn't bleed, it just sort of exposed a softer looking tissue underneath.
I had a similar injury happen to a dog that I was biking with once, and that healed without any problem. He limped the first day, but that was it. Its been 24 hours and Fleetwood is still holding almost all weight off of that foot, I'm kind of thinking that's not the only injury he has
If he's still limping on Tuesday he's going to his vet, but hopefully nothing will get worse before then so we don't have to go to the e-vet. Suggestions on how to care for this, our vibes for quick healing?
