Gage is number 150 on the most popular list on the Social Security website for 2007. Not rare, but not really popular either. Its perfect.

Madison is number 5. WOAH.

Taylor is number 24. Not too terribly bad I guess.

Yeah, same place I got the name.

Someone at work yesterday asked me the names I chose and when I said Damien, she was like "I hate that name. It reminds me of the Omen." She's very religious so I didn't tell her that's actually why I like the name and just said "oh, yeah, a lot of people think of that" or something :D
LOL. Thats funny.

I do agree to an EXTENT as to spellings. DH and I spend a large part of the College Football season..snickering over what women and men choose to call their sons. I mean it is sometimes...amusing.

I mean who wants to go thru life as a Craphonso?

Also, I see some kids in Kindergarten STRUGGLING to write their own name because it is soooo long, or has sooo many odd letters in it, lol. I see others DOOMED to forever be mispronounced at student awards ceremonies...there in front of their peers...who laugh at them.

All I ask of parents is that they think...beyond themselves...into the future...and how that name will fit, a child learning to write, a grad walking across the HS stage to collect their diploma, an adult applying for a job, and old man or woman, IOW...at every stage of life.

IMO staying in the family...or simple with normal spellings, is always my choice. Elias's name is not either...but he can always go by Eli...which is quite simple and common.

But Elias is a perfectly simple name and that is the standard spelling. I just love that name. It is the first name of the inventor of the sewing machine, Elias Howe, for one. I know that because I used to live on the same street as the building where he invented it and there was a plaque on the wall.

drmom it was also Walt Disney's middle name...I learned that recently LOL. I know we pronounce it differently...for ex in the NHL there is a foreign born player with ELIAS as his last name...it is pronounced "ELLY-AH-SH"

I love my son's name as well. To me it is perfection LOL. I saved it in my tiny brain when I was 18 for any son I had someday...glad I did. I pronounce it exactly the way it's said in "Platoon" and I think that's off a bit from the common...I know it's different than the way hispanic speakers say it for ex.

I just can't imagine being professional and called 'Gage'...unless it was the Matrix like alias (like Neo) of some comic book/video game geek.
That's right... everyone knows you need a name like Max Power..... or does that only work for Homer Simpson?

I have always heard e-lie-us. (I don't know how to write it so you know what I mean) How do you pronounce it?

I know I have mentioned it before, but my little daughter Elinora goes by Eli as well.

I believe that is, in fact, the standard pronunciation. Once again, kudos on your good taste in names. Your little girl has a lovely name as well. Neither one will ever have cause for complaint about that as they grow--they will have to find something else about you to complain about.

OH funny story...I had NO idea a company called Eli-Lilly existed until I had my kids...I think they're still around but are just "Lilly" now? pharmaceuticals?

That tickled me...lol. Something else...when you have more than one...the funny pairings you may get when you hear them all called together.

Hey, I actually kinda like "Karsyn". I would have never thought about that and I especially like the way its spelled. Unique for sure.

Another one that pops in my head from time to time is Cassi/Cassie/Kassie. I went to grade school with a Cassie, and I've liked it ever since.

Another middle name I am thinking about it "Faithe" after my fiances grandmother.

If my son, Carson, had ended up being my daughter instead, the name would've been "Karsyn." :D

And I've only met 1 female with that name and she spelled it Karsin. I just like the "y".

Well my name is deff. different Dakotah. My sister's name is Mackenzie.
I plan on calling my daughter Lynn Madison and my son Ashton Ray. Every one of those names are from my family somehow or another, except for Madison, and I want names in the family. :)

Oh Reggin- I love the name Taylor. :)

I think the name Taylor is really cute :D

Most of the names I like aren't popular names. I grew up with a really common name (Jessica) and ended up going by Jessie for my entire life so that I wouldn't share it with too many people.

If we have a daughter, we're most likely going to name her Marlie. Ian and I have been pretty set on that name for a while. I like the name Summer as well for a girl... and I really like Emma, but it's too popular for me. Rae will probably go for a middle name for the first child born with any of those names.
Rylie is my favorite name... and sometimes I regret naming my dog that.

For a boy's name I really like Ryland or Rylan... I also like Liam, Kaiden, and Aiden.

I think about names a lot... lol... always good to be prepared ;)

And what should a professional be named?
A name that isn't made up. Alternative spellings are not alternative - they are stupid. Sure, Crystalyn Neveah is cute for a baby, but as an adult, having a name that sounds like a stripper or comic book character WILL effect your life negatively. Try applying for a job with a name like that.

I'm not talking about the weird spelling names. You said Gage is not a professional name. It is not a "made up" name. As pointed out, it's a fairly common, "real", not misspelled name. But for some reason, because you associate it with video games :)confused:) it is not professional. Yes, your criteria for not being professional does not address it, so again, what makes a name professional? You liking it, I suppose
