I do agree to an EXTENT as to spellings. DH and I spend a large part of the College Football season..snickering over what women and men choose to call their sons. I mean it is sometimes...amusing.
I mean who wants to go thru life as a Craphonso?
Also, I see some kids in Kindergarten STRUGGLING to write their own name because it is soooo long, or has sooo many odd letters in it, lol. I see others DOOMED to forever be mispronounced at student awards ceremonies...there in front of their peers...who laugh at them.
All I ask of parents is that they think...beyond themselves...into the future...and how that name will fit, a child learning to write, a grad walking across the HS stage to collect their diploma, an adult applying for a job, and old man or woman, IOW...at every stage of life.
IMO staying in the family...or simple with normal spellings, is always my choice. Elias's name is not either...but he can always go by Eli...which is quite simple and common.
