I don't have much info on it except that not all dogs are Schutzhund quality. I think about any dog (kinda any) could do the tracking and obedience faze, but not all dogs are cut out to do the protection faze.

(I've always thought it would be totally cool to have a Schutzhund quality dog. *sigh* Maybe when I'm out on my own and I have enough money to buy a dog, I can get a Schutzhund quality dog....that would be sooooooo awsome. But for right now, my dogs will do ;) )

I had the privilege of working with a Schutzhund trainer once. If the training is done properly, you can come out with a very intelligent, well behaved dog. I think it's a wonderful way to appeal to all of your dog's instincts in a constructive and controlled way, and a great way to bond. Have fun! Let us know if you decide to compete!

The difference between a pit bull trained in Schutzhund and one that's not is the same as the difference between a cop with a gun and a redneck with a gun. All dogs have teeth. A dog who is trained when it is and is not appropriate to use his teeth is a much safer animal than one who is not. Whereas the redneck will probably end up shooting someone by accident, the cop has enough knowledge and understanding of his gun to keep it under control.

Oh Breeze - it sounds like you'll be moving near me, lol! It would be funnier if it weren't so true . . .

I'm sorry to ask a sort of off-topic question, but I've been looking for answers and haven't been able to find anything:

Can any dog do Schutzhund or is it only available to specific breeds?

Thanks so much!
