I just wanted to say - I don't recall if I've seen those posts or not. But I wanted to say that possibly, the reason everyone "overreacted" to that is 1. They way things are worded on the forum. People can read it and decipher it however they please :p if its worded loosely, that's exactly what happens lol
2. Spanking a dog, or popping it (not too sure what it is, doesn't matter) after the dog runs into the road and comes back, or you have to go get it, is mute point. I think all of the trainers - on both sides of the argument (LOL) agree that a correction, done properly, has to be timed right. A dog isn't going to understand what its being 'corrected' for after the fact. ;) Hope I made sense... I think the meds are going to my head :lol-sign: Or maybe its all these wonderful, long posts.
You can actually learn something here... in between the accusations and poking LOL . . .
Just for clarity.. Popping her on the butt with one finger is in leiu of slapping her on the butt with my whole hand, so I guess you could say I slap her with one finger (and I can assure you it hurts me more than her LOL). She's a very sensitive dog and the only time I ever do that to her is when she's put herself in danger, despite my commands, and I want her to have a negative association with the situation.

Also, I never do it after she's come back to me - I only do it when we're in the road itself; the minute she crosses back over that "line" into the yard I praise her, whether she did it on her own, or with me. Hell, I learned that lesson the hard way with my cats - try catching one of those after it's learned it's only going to get in trouble when you catch it.

The result? Even tho she still has a tendency to want to chase things into or across the road, she's not going as far now. And when she does, and she hears me step off the deck to come get her, she turns around and races to me with her tail wagging. LOL Clearly I'm not hurting her physically or emotionally.

...by the way, I use the famous EMERGENCY RECALL exercise mentioned here. I fell in love with it the first time I read it. Except, I use RED LIGHT! RED LIGHT! instead of DUCK DUCK GOOSE!

Where would I find that? I just ran "emergency recall" in the search function and it gave me about 10 million results for the food recalls. LOL

Whatzsamatter, I try really hard to ignore you and not answer anything you write. I'm making an exception now. Don't bother telling me or anyone else that they're condenscending or any of the other nasty remarks you regularly make. You have NO place in doing that. You are consistantly rude, attacking, personal and a real ass, just like you said. You have come so close to being banned I don't know how many times. So don't tell me about condenscending.
then ignore me, It's really funny how I can come so close to being banned, FOR WHAT???, but you can come out and do whatever and say whatever you want. Pot meet kettle. Difference is I could really care less, and don't really pretend to stand on some high moral ground about it. I just find it rather amusing that you post like you do, then you come off and can make personal attacks all you want, but its ok?? Right on, if you say so.

just cause you put LOL at the end of a jab directed at someone doesn't make it haha funny, it actually seems like a childish add on to your insult. You gonna try and say it was something else??

as for your opinion that I never have anything to add, never have anything constructive, well let's just say i've gotten more than a few PM's asking for advice that people are too afraid to ever put on the board, I also get more than a few PM's from people saying they are really sick of the way things are on here sometimes, and you know what, it has nothing to do with my attitude, just look in the mirror you'll see the reason. And again, other PM's thanking me for adding something else rather than the status quo that is pushed by a few in here.

Sorry to step in here, but as the founder of an online industry organization & former board owner & manager, I can tell you I've gotten these same posts from disgruntled members. The same thing exactly - the PMs, the resentment, etc....

Just thought I'd add a bit of perspective.

that doesn't suprise me, it also doesn't suprise me that you send PM's saying what you want, then like a child stick your fingers in your ears and "block" someone from responding, only to unblock them to respond again later when you have something other insult to throw at me, then leave again with your fingers in your ears.

Think back really hard to what that incident was all about, then tell me I had no reason to block yet another of your head on slams.

I'll tell you what. It is not your place to moderate this forum, to tell me what's wrong with how it is moderated or run. You are in NO position to blast how things are done here. You are in no position to moderate. Get it? That is NOT your job. You are over stepping the boundaries, bullying more people than just me and have been very, very frequently for way too long.

Frankly, if I were so sick of this forum, I would just leave. I mean, it is an option. Nobody is held here with a ball and chain. If I got a PM from someone moaning about the forum I would just tell that person to haul their ass off of it. Maybe that's why I don't get those kinds of PMs. Why complain if the end is only one permanent click away?

I remember only one incident that really bothered me, about a dog in danger and others not seeing what I saw, , and I left for awhile till I cooled down, realizing that we all process things differently in this world. Beyond that, even though I sometimes get in arguments with people here, which is NORMAL, I don't have any less respect for them. Frankly, hashing this kind of dirty laundry out on the forum instead of off site where it belongs, smacks of 8th grade recess and embarrasses me. But I will say this: sometimes HOW you say things is what offends people a whole lot more than what you are saying. If people started blocking me, I would have to take a seriously big look at my own approach.

It would have been nice to see who you quoted about clicker training. I can tell you that I don't know ANYONE on here who believes in and practices positive training who does not use some kind of aversives.
i didn't want to look like i was having a go at anyone, just to prove i wasn't misreading posts and bring up where i may have been mislead as to people's opinions. :)

I wonder if the people who say they don't use aversions actually mean they don't use physical aversions but don't bother to specify. A lot of people use the word 'aversions' only in the negative context. At least, that's what it seems to me. Not sure.
