I am going crazy and need help!

I want Chloe on a low protein diet, 22% max, preferably FISH based.
I thought I finally found the food Wellness Whitefish formula but she refuses to eat it, I have tried everything... it smells awful too, so I dont really blame her. Not that any dog foods smells good but this smells particularly awful.

Can anyone think of any other foods? I have been searching online all day.

The vet doesnt think she needs to be on low protein at all, but the low protein foods they recommend are Royal Canin which I dont really like... I suppose I would try it as a last resort, so opinions on this are fine too.

I did also find Natural Balance LID Salmon that is 21%, but I dont know if I like Natural Balance, I guess I could try it.

A lot of people recommend vegetarian diets because they are low protein but I will not go this route. She has NO symptoms and is very healthy overall so I dont feel it is necessary to take meat out of her diet, I think in the long run she will be healthier by keeping meat in her diet.

Oh and not to be super picky or anything  but if you have first hand knowledge of the food can you tell me how big the kibbles are, I think she doesnt like that the Wellness is sooo big.

No help on the food front but I am NOT a fan of Natural balance. It's been the only food ever to make my cat throw up. I don't know what it would do to a dog but the first ingredient is almost never meat so I wouldn't go with it...

thank you... I was going to look at the ingredients on the bag first but I was pretty sure I remembered not liking the ingredients last time I looked.

Nature's Variety has a salmon formula, I think both regular and grain-free. I don't know the protein content though.

The kibble for NV is small/average I would say.
I used Wellness White Fish and I agree it is so stinky. Lucy ate it reluctantly. She like their canned though.
California Natural has a herring formula. I don't know the size of the kibble, it has been a long time since I used California Natural.

I forgot about CN! They do have a small bites line too, so if the store doesn't carry it, ask if they can bring it in. I will special order it for a client of mine.

I thought it came in round kibble? Do you have a shop near you with samples? Then you could try out several to see what you/your dog likes?

I had a friend whose dog wouldn't eat large kibbles, so she broke them up with a hammer before feeding it.

Why low protein??
I would say she was crazy but I was banging food with a mallet last night, :rofl1: It didnt work.

Chloe has non symptomatic microvascular dysplasia (its a liver disease).

Ooh, you may be right. I might be thinking of Innova. We tried 4 or 5 different foods before we found one she did okay on.
