Opinions? Pros, cons, differences, experiences?

I seriously keep going around in circles, it's not even funny. I want something to read on, take with me easily, go online (Just forums and fb and easy sites like that). I don't care too much about watching movies but might use netflix on it.

My mom has a Nook and loves it, I love google products so the Nexus keeps appealing to me and I would like to be able to read books that are Kindle additions since there are so many that have caught my eye through the years.

So I'm pretty much in a dead tie.

Note-Ipad is not in the running at all :p

I absolutely love my Nook HD, so much that my husband bought himself one a few weeks ago so we don't have to share one. I've slowly gotten into doing more than just reading on mine. The reason we went with Nook over Kindle is you aren't locked into getting books from one place with the Nook. The only downfall is that B&N is looking to sell the Nook. If they don't, they're going to dis-continue them.

Nexus, hands down. It does everything the others do and isn't hindered by crappy bloatware and lousy launchers.

Sincerely,

The Nexus!

The kindle is best for reading, but sounds like you want a good general tablet and that's nexus!

If you want to read on it mostly the get a kindle or a nook, they can be red in direct sunlight tablets can not. If you want a tablet to do a bit of reading one but only inside not in low light get any tablet you like. I have a cheap Lenovo that was like 98 bucks runs android jellybean works great, but reading on it or an iPad outside or in low light is brutal on ones eyes. I can read on my kindle for hours, the tablets an hour tops.

I got my mom a basic Kindle one year and the Nexus 7 the next. She always uses the Nexus now for reading, never uses the Kindle anymore. She got my sister a more basic tablet...an HTC? The Nexus is really much better quality compared to the HTC, it runs fast, it's pretty, has a nice screen.

My daughter has a nook, I have the kindle and Nexus. We prefer the kindle for reading, amazon books are cheaper and there are way more free books than the Nook. I also have Amazon prime so I get a free book per month.
I don't like reading on the Nexus, much prefer the Kindle for that. Not a Nexus fan, it's ok, but nothing special. The only things I do on my kindle are read, check FB, e-mail and amazon shopping.
I just bought 2 of my kids Kindle HD's for Christmas. I do find a decent cover on the Kindles makes a world of difference in comfortable reading so I bought them Kindle covers that put it to sleep when you close it. It makes me feel like I am reading an actual book.

My only issue with the nook was that having B&N as a customer service center was a huge deal (and being able to trade/read free books in store)
but B&Ns are disappearing and calling them is such a pain! My nook is old (1st gen) but currently it sits around gathering dust.

Plus books are quite expensive through their database

Yeah, I think it depends what you are really wanting it to do.

If you want a tablet you can also read on, nexus.

If you want to JUST read, kindle.

Kindle has TONS of free books and you can borrow kindle editions for free from libraries(at least my lib has them). And I can read on it for HOURS with zero eye strain... But I also have the older black & white version...idk how the newer one compares?

The paperweight kindle uses the same e-ink tech as older kindles (so it's just like reading a page)

the kindle fire etc.. I don't know. It seems more like a total tablet to me, not sure how reading on them goes.

I really like my Kindle Fire, but if I had been looking for something to primarily use for internet stuff, I would have gotten a Nexus.

Just a FYI on the nook free book thing:

Don't type in "free" when looking for books. Type in "0.00". ;)

And it also supports various files, so you do not have to get books just from B & N. I can check out books from my local library, download books to my computer from other places, and transfer it all to my nook. ;)

With that said, I have a nook 1st addition that has the 3G and Wifi, so I REFUSE to get rid of it! The 3G feature rocks when traveling and I want to get a new book. I also have the nook SimpleTouch with Glowlight, and it's just....genius. I cannot stand reading on a backlit surface, such as computers, iPhone, and tablets, as it killed my eyes and give me a headache from hell. But then I also have an iPad to do my puttering round on when I want to play games or do stuff on Facebook on the internet.

If you have no problems reading on backlit devices, just get the tablet. Otherwise, maybe a nook and an inexpensive tablet. :)

I just have the basic nook with wifi, etc. I love it for reading, battery life is great (even though I constantly forget to charge it) etc. I borrow from the library on it as well.

That's what I did with my Nook Tablet. Now I have an N7.

I'll only buy devices with unlocked bootloaders from now on. I've been ruined.
