I love my Nook. I like that it supports multiple files instead of just kindle books and that many books you can lend out as well.

I originally just had the plain nook but last year got the HD+ which functions great as a tablet (we have a samsung galaxy tab as well but I like the Nook just as much) and causes no eye strain for me when reading. I routinely read for 4+ hours at a time on it. I also downloaded the kindle app so I can buy books from amazon when I want to as well.

I want an e-reader soon, too, but as tempting as the Nexus is (I have an android phone and a Chromebook, after all...), I think I would need something basic that is JUST for books. Otherwise I'd use it for INTERNETS FOREVER instead of reading

The biggest reason I don't want the Nexus is I want the screen that the Nook and Kindle have. I want something easy on my eyes because even when I'm online I'm typically reading. I read a lot of online stories so the screen being easy on my eyes is something I really want.

But, I don't want to be disappointed and wish I had gotten something more down the line.

For those with the Nook (Which I'm still leaning towards, Nook HD+), do you think it handles the internet ok? I mean, I really don't need it for anything super heavy duty. Being able to do some searches, go to websites and forums, do FB.

And, you can put the Kindle app on the Nook right? So I would still be able to get Kindle books if I wanted correct?

I really want the Nexus but I really want an easier screen which is why I keep going back to the Nook.

yep, I use it for that all the time. Facebook app works well on it as well.

I've been happy with it. I haven't done the forums on my Nook (HD) yet, mainly because I haven't felt like getting up to get my password list. But FB and email have been great. I will say, tho, I definitely prefer a real keyboard and mouse over the virtual keyboard and touch screen (probably an age thing, tho).

Just so you know, the nook hd+ is backlit like a typical tablet, so it would have the same affect on your eyes as a computer or tablet.

I LOVE my nook SimpleTouch GlowLight! I only use the light at night, but even with my light-sensitive eyes it's perfect! I read on it at least 2 hours a day/night. :)

My older 2 boys each have a nook hd+, and I think it's a nice tablet. Easy to use, handles the internet just fine, etc. I LOVE that I can set up personalized settings for each child, and I can control all the content they have access to. Not to mention they're on sale for $149!

Have you thought about the samsung galaxy tablet? My dad has just bought one (over the nexus) and he LOVES it.

I just wanted to say thanks for all the input everyone gave !

I ended up going with the Nook HD even though I was heavily leaning towards the Nexus. I think the Nexus is probably a better tablet but the screen of the Nook kept bringing me back. I know Miakoda that you said the screen was the same as a normal tablet but I just don't think it is because I used my moms for awhile to get a feel for it and the screen didn't bother me at all and I had been getting major eye strain recently from reading on my laptop. But last night I read for hours and had no issue.

I also liked how all Nook owners were super enthusiastic about their Nooks.

So far I'm very happy!

Yay! :D

I actually did lots of research and pondered long and hard before purchasing my first nook many years ago (nook vs. kindle). I see the pros and cons of both, but I do not regret my decision, and I'd make the same on all over again. :)

And depending on what you like to read, I'm a happy book lender. :D. You can lend a book, which then the other person has 14 days to read before the book reverts back to the lenders nook (if you lend a book out, it won't show up in your library during that time).

I have hard copies of Harry Potter, but I ended up buying them for my nook recently. I just felt like some easy reading, and since I read mainly at night, I needed the books. But they are "Lend Me" books.

And check your local library to see if they have an online program. Ours does, and with a tablet, I just had to download the app (3M), and from there I can check out and read books directly on my iPad. No need to worry about returning it either. :p
