OK, I posted because I want sympathy! I have a hundred million ulcers, I don't have a mouth anymore, just one giant ulcer!
I've been living on banana icecreams and yoghurt for the past three days, and obviously I've been unable to work. I think I may be going crazy! Surely banana icecreams and yoghurt arn't good as a steady diet?
Any medical suggestions? The doctor gave me a cream and anitbiotics, but the cream is almost worse than the ulcers themselves!

Awww, poor bridey. That is painful. I have suffered from mouth ulcers in the past and I have found that swishing warm salt water helps the healing a lot. If you can stand it, Listerine helps heal them too, but can be a little painful. In the future, when you know they are coming, start doing the above things several times a day, it will prevent them from getting worse. Good luck, may it pass quickly.

Poor bridey! I get ulcers when I bite my lip and they just have to run their course, the only thing I've found that helps any is swishing with Listerine quite often and putting Orajel on to help the pain.

Awwww....yes....those are soooooooooooooooo painful. I used to get those all of the time, but I haven't gotten one in several years. I think you're doing about all you can do for the moment. Swishing warm salt water will help. There's something that the Dr can put on them but I can't remember what the name of it is.

Bridey, those are usually the result of insufficient iron or one of the B vitamins, and since iron and the Bs are often contained in the same foods it's hard to determine if a lack of one or the other is the problem, or if it is a lack of both. Long term, get a good iron and vitamin B complex source in your daily diet.

Now, short term, so you can give your speech . . . take a bottle of Chloraseptic spray with you and spray your mouth down before you have to talk.

The salt water (especially if you use sea salt) and the Listerine are both good. If you can find some Dr. Tichener's mouthwash it's even better than the Listerine. Just be sure to dilute it according to the directions. There's also an oral form of hydrogen peroxide that will help, and you can try the Betadine that's for sore throats. That's probably the best as it will also help reduce the soreness.
