Lovely, Gus !!! Where are you exactly in France. My late husband's ancesters fled from France as Huguenots....There's a town and castle named after them...I think it's on the west/south side. The town is Mauze....with the accent on the e...Have always wanted to visit. Any knowledge ???
Mauze is south west of us! It's quite near Bordeaux, I think!
We are right in the middle!! In the Limousin Region, in a little departement called Creuse!
Funnily enough the Limousin cow is brown! It's a common misconception that it's white! They are still beautiful though! and there are more white cows to brown cows here! It's the Charolais cows that are white!
In case anyone is interested http://www.limousin.co.uk/news/commericial/weaver.html
Duh! Silly me! I get the two of them confused. We've got a neighbor who has both (along with a few Angus and Whiteface). The Limousin and Charolais bulls are both well represented in this part of the country; a lot of farmers like the cross with an Angus cow and seem to find those bulls easier to deal with than the Angus bulls, and since beef cattle only have to be of 50% Angus lines to end up as "certified Angus" in the market it's pretty much dealer's choice. I'd bet that a lot of the stuff that's sold as certified Angus is 25% or even less. Shoot some of it may just have been in the field or pen with an actual Angus at some point . . .
Lol! you should have heard the row we had when we first moved here!! I said that the Limousin cows were brown but Martin was having none of it! He was convinced they were white!! The argument went on for 3 months and in the end I was like "i'm fed up with this!!" So when we were next out walking I stopped and asked the farmer what breed his white cows were and he said Charolais!! I was like HA!! In your face Martin!!! Needless to say he had to back down and got very sulky for weeks!! He just can't bear to be wrong!! MEN!!!
