I wanted to wait to post about this until I had the full story.

Well, Sunday night, old Ty was outside barking at squirrels, as usual. Well, a squirrel went into a tree that was actually in my yard... which is fairly unusual. Anyway, my **** fool proceeds to hop around the tree like an idiot, then, while getting a wild hair up his ass, he tries to grab a branch that was about seven feet up, misses, and crashes down at a wierd angle on his left leg.

Considering that he got about six and a half feet up, he landed really hard. He yips and cries and carries on, so I run over and command him to platz, which he does, so I go over to him, pick him up and carry him inside. I call Dr. John and set up a vet appointment for Monday morning, and proceed to try to make my hurt, pigheaded, angry, uber high drive dog hold still until Monday morning. Fun.

Monday morning. I get Ty loaded up, and off to the vet we go. We get him on the exam table and Dr. John pokes him, prods him, fondles him and makes him walk. He narrows it down to Ty's knee. Dr. John then explains to me that he feels it could be one of two things... a sprain, or a torn ACL.

I'm freaking out at this point worried all about the ACL, worried that my kickass sport dog has a career ending injury. Well, we set up an appointment for Wednesday to put him under so Doc can see if the knee has movement that would indicate an ACL, and an xray to check the joint.

It turns out that the old man sprained it, and the ACL appears to be fine.
It was still quite a scare though, he's slightly over the hill at 5, but he's far from being retired. This boy should have 4-5 years of good trialing left in him.

I'm hoping to put an OtCH on him now. There's no schutzhund clubs in my area, but he needs some sort of job. Plus, it'll give me a new goal to work on for the next year or so.

It's scary how much we love our dogs.

FYI:

Your dog has to be AKC registered to compete in trials to earn obedience titles.

Ack! Oh no! I would have seriously had a heart attack. Wishing him a fast and full recovery. This could have been much much worse. You're very lucky.

GSD, I was thinking the same thing. As if the other thread wasn't good enough.

5 is over the hill? To me, the number isn't important, it's the dog. King will be 10 soon, and he isn't over it yet!
