I was watching Miami Animal Police last night on Animal Planet. Did anybody else watch it? There was this case where a lady is opening her car door to go in,but two Pitties rush ahead, thinking they we're going for a car ride. Terrified, she closes the door. She didn't know who the dogs belonged to but she knew Pitbulls are illegal here in Miami. She called animal control and three people came. One of them had one of those big metal sticks with a hoop of thread at the end used for catching aggressive animals that I just forgot the nam e of. It was nearly 90 degrees outside and the dogs had been in the car for nearly 8 minutes. They knew they had to get the dogs out but they we're all so scared saying "These animals have locking jaws that can rip your arm off. That male seems agressive so we better be careful"! I don't see nothing agressive in the dog, he was barking a lot but I would scream my head off also if I was locked in a car where the temperature was over 100 degrees already  ! And pitties DON'T have locking jaws! Anyway, they got the pitties out of the car and the "agressive" one didn't even pay atention to all the people around him, he just laid down in the grass, glad that he was out of the heat. I don't know why they'd send someone who doesn't know the first thing about Pitbulls to take care of a Pitbull case!

This was just to vent really, people that don't know pitties have it stuck in they're minds that they're people killers.

I've seen that show and that episode before and that is one of the reason's I don't like to watch animal planet any more. They don't seem to care all that much about animals as they do about making money and getting viewers.

That's sick :(. I have seen animal cops before...I believe it was for Denver...and they busted dog fighters. The officers felt horrible for the dogs they found, one officer carried out this poor brown pit with blood all over his face. :(

I don't watch Miami Animal Police or Animal Cops Houston anymore. They do alot of mislabeling of breeds I have seen them put down Sher Pei mix's and American Bulldogs saying they were pitbulls. Even when owners say no its not a pitbull they don't beleive them! Their uneducated period and i jsut can't watch it anymore.

I think it's just force of habit for them to take caution when working around pits (no matter what). They see many aggressive dogs and they always work cautiously around an animal. I saw that one last night too, because we're thinking of moving and that was the first thing that I thought was to call the town that we are moving to and check if pitbulls are illegal (which their not). The pits were not aggressive though last night, there was a certain shot where they got a little mad at each other in the kennel but it's understandable because they were in there together and it was a little small for two 100 pound pitbulls.

I'm a dog lover and owner but i'm sorry. If a couple pits jump into my car I'm closing the door and calling the cops. Don't blame animal control for being careful. I understand that 99% of pits are harmless but you have to be safe.

I don't really watch animal planet because of it. I got so sick of hearing "a pit will turn on you and eat you" all the time. In that case I would have called the animal control too but I see no reason they have to say that they are viscious unpredictable killers. Some people believie everything they hear on tv,especially from an authority figure and it is just sick to me that they get away with saying it.

Yes, if I opened the car door and a dog I dind't know jumped in, I'd close the door too. But I wouldn't call it an agressive animal if it wasn't doing anything. And even though that was the first and last time I watched Miami Animal Police, I still like to watch some shows on animal planet like Worlds Funniest Animals, Pet Star, Growing up, Corwins Quest, and That's my baby. I also like to watch the agility and flyball competitions they have on sometimes. Plus, there's lots of animal comercials like the dancing dog for kibbles n Bits:D Point is, just because of one show (or two or three) doesn't mean the channel is bad;) But thanks for understanding guys:)

The way I look at it is they are usually called in a dangerous situation. So most of the pits they come in contact with are aggressive. Theres no need to call animal control for a well adjusted friendly dogs so they never see those. So if all they really see in their line of work is out of control animals thats what their opinion is based on.

The average person knows nothing about dogs, therefore they may just assume the dog is aggressive - many "average people" even assume that when a dog jumps up, he is trying to be dominant.

Well they are called in for any animal running loose, some friendly and some not so friendly. The point is they can't take their chances with any animal (not even a cat). They don't know their medical history, their shot records. These dogs could be infected with rabies or some other disease, the officers don't know. I'm not agreeing with the way they handle pits but I'm just saying they have a job they have to take VERY serious. I mean they don't know what they are dealing with when they go out on a call.

thats cruel!!!! I think Pitties r cute and they don't seem aggressive to me. Thats WRONG!!!!!!!! Thats why I don't watch those animal police shows anymore....b/c people don't know what they are doing and they don't know how to handle the animals they are dealing with in a case like that.

Ok, this is Miami, right? And Pitts are banned there? Is that right? If so, what the hell were Pitts doing there and RUNNING LOOSE then!!!???? At first I was outraged that these poor dogs were in the hot car then got pulled out with rods. That makes me sick. But what were these officers and the car owner supposed to think with stray running Pitts, which are banned, getting into her car? And if they are sweet dogs, it breaks my heart what might happen to them next :(

people like you scare me to death
I have a weimaraner that looks beautiful and does not look very intimidating. The bad part is that he will bite. While weimaraners don't have a rep for being mean mine is a monster. I would hate to ever have him get loose. I would hope anyone would apprach him with caution. What i'm getting at is that you have to have caution with unknown animals.
