Tonight was quite interesting and unexpected. A family friend called us up and told us that there was a female dane in a local shelter here. Long story short she pulled her and I went and picked her up a couple hours ago!
She is a merle female TINY little thing and SO underweight! Poor girl looks like she hasn't had a decent meal in months. The shelter said she is a year old, I am thinking she may be a bit younger....but honestly I have no clue.
The intro to my pack was...iffy to say the least. So I will be crate and rotating them, which is fine with me as I am used to it... and it would probably make things a lot easier on all of them for the time being.
She is a total sweetie, very mellow, obviously no manners yet... she walked into the living room jumped on the couch and made herself right at home LOL. So far she has not made any accidents inside, and has gone outside a couple times now with no problems.
She ate a good meal about a half hour ago and is now snoozing next to my chair.
We won't be keeping her forever. I already have a close friend interested in giving her a home (as long as she does well with kids). She has been wanting a dane for a while now and was recently turned down by a dane rescue because the guy who came and did the home check PINNED their dog down, and the dog growled at him. Ridiculous no? What type of response were they expecting? A strange guy coming into their house and pinning him down? My people-loving goofs would most likely do the same! The whole thing was ridiculous and completly unprofessional if you ask me.
But anyways, enough ranting lol. I obviously won't just be dumping her over there since we do not know her history with small children. So she will be staying with us until she is at a decent weight, knows some basic commands, and we get a chance to test her with children and smaller dogs ect. If all goes well we will eventually introduce her to their family and see if it is the right fit for both them and Darby.
onto the pictures!
