someone is making a mad dash to get alot of posts... lol

I like females, i guess thats becuase growing up, all we had was male dogs... I think we only had one female dog, and she got run over 4 months after we got her. She was an adult standard white poodle named Cleopatra (cleo for short) she was very well trained and she never left our yard unless she was on a leash with us. well one day I went across the street to play with the neighbors and Cleo stayed in the yard laying in the sun. well all of the sudden she decided to come play with us and a truck hit her. I was 8.

Both. :)

I adore my girls and I adore my boys. I've had about even numbers of both in my life and I like them both.

I think for the most part males. They in my opinion have always had the better personalities. Females that I have had and do have seem to be moody. Man that took a lot out of me to say that too.

The males seem to be more affectionate, so I'll probably have more of them.

Because I've owned herding and working breeds most of my life, I prefer males. I think they have more drive and have a great work ethic. Having said that, that pretty Rott of Redyres' (Penny) could run circles around my boys on a good day!

Having a mixed pair means the dogs are more likely to get along and not try to eat each other's faces off.

I generally prefer boys, but I must say I am head over heels for my little female too. Gender is secondary to a good temperament.

Exactly my thoughts.

Males seem in general more clingy, more affectionate, and more even tempered in my experience. Females are more independent and more 'you dote on me' rather than males who are more 'I dote on you'.

That said, Rose is an extremely affectionate female and Trey's not very affectionate. It all depends on the dog.

My families owned both. Trhuthfully I've always preferred males, my sister swears she'll only own girls it's all up to the individual. And yes we have owned some female dogs that I've adored

i prefer males.

i don't really know why. we've had a pretty even mix when i was growing up. it went

ME BORN - girl 1/boy 1
girl 2
lost girl 2
lost boy 1
girl 3
lose girl 1
girl 4
boy 2
lose girl 4
girl 5
boy 3

lol that was fun. did in my head though

nah, i just reckon boys seem to get more attached. just a personal preference but i like their personality more.

I much prefer females and doubt I'll ever have another male dog, and if I do, only one. I like the smaller size, lighter coat, independent nature, activity level, etc. of females (in my chosen breed anyway). Of course, there are always exceptions, as with anything, but I always have and always will prefer female dogs. I like how my female is attached to me, but gives me some space. Our male is like glue, as are other male dogs I know. I also enjoy training females more than I do males because as much as I love a people pleaser, sometimes the boys take it a little too far..lol. I like a dog who enjoys pleasing me, but doesn't live to please me - if that makes any sense at all. It's really hard to explain just exactly why I prefer females, actually..

I'd have to say both, but for different reasons.

The females of the house are spunky, saucy, savvy... they're "full of **** 'n' vinegar" as ony of my trainer friends says. They're devilish, bbut affectionate in their own right - but they look at every situation in terms of "okay, now how does this benefit ME?"

Ronin's completely different. He's a lovesick pup when I come home, he's extremely lovey and affectionate. Everything he does, he does for ME... that's what I like about the boys!

We have 2 boys and a girl. We knew we wanted a female when we got Daisy since we already had 2 boys. We knew we wanted a male when we got Gunnar.

I think the breed is more of a factor around how lovey they are, though I don't have 2 GSD's or 2 Danes or Pugs to compare. Gunnar has the typical GSD temperament- he's pretty aloof to most people. He'll greet, wag his tail, let people pet him, then he goes off and does his own thing. He's affectionate with the family but isn't a cuddler. He'll come up and want to climb half way on my lap a couple times a day for some good scratching. Even though he likes to be in the room with you, and he'll often lay with his head on my feet, he's not like Daisy or Bruzer. Daisy is the MOST affectionate dog I've ever seen, even more than Bruzer who is a complete lap dog and love bug. Daisy has to press her entire body against you, she'll get in your lap and stretch out so her head is on your shoulder and lay her body all the way down along yours. She's also the most kissy dog I ever saw. I can't imagine a male Dane being more affectionate than her. She doesn't have to be right with you all the time though, but she likes to be in sight of you. She'll lay in the living room on the couch while I'm in the office working, stuff like that.
