Okay I didn't post this when it happened, but I'm still curious.

Zach's parents have a 5 year old, spayed, female, mini doxie. We've watched her while they travel pretty often for the past two years, and if we ever decide to be...er...intimate...it's planned out and she is locked downstairs or in the other bedroom for our alone time.

Well, a month ago they went away, and the three of us were going to sleep, Giselle was curled up sleeping in the corner of the bed...and my fiance started getting a little bit frisky. He wanted to go move her but she was SOUND asleep so I was like "just leave her there, she's just going to stay asleep".

Well, a little while into it I look over and she's sitting next to me, STARING AT US. I just kind of pushed her away and pulled the blanket over our heads and that was that.

The next afternoon, we were playing with one of those loofa toys...she's had it for months and months and plays with it a lot, mostly "chase" or tug. Anyway, after the game was over, she grabbed the loofa and started humping it. The toy was WAY too small for that, but she KEPT doing it, all friggin night.

I have NEVER EVER EVER seen this dog hump ANYTHING before, not other dogs, not toys, not ANYTHING. Not in the past two years and Zach says he hasn't ever seen her do it either.

She only did it for that night, then stopped and hasn't done it since. It seems to me REALLY unlikely that she picked it up from people, but honestly, it was too coincidental that she randomly decided to do it after seeing us.

Thoughts? She was at doggy day care earlier that week, maybe she picked it up there? She goes there all the time though...

Sometimes dogs hump to show dominance and ownership or to relieve boredom. Could be doggy was just saying "My toy!"

I highly, HIGHLY doubt the toy humping had anything to do with what she saw.......just a coincidence IMO, LOL, one that mortified you BECAUSE you know what she saw.

A dog who has never humped anything in their whole lives can start the habit at any age, any time, any where. She could have picked up this new type of 'play' at her doggy daycare from a new friend.

She could have been feeling a bit anxious about being away from home. Yes, even though you guys have kept her before, she could have felt some anxieties, never know.

I don't claim to understand animal behavior or be anything other than a pet owner............so hopefully someone who does understand a bit more can come along and ease your mind.

Thanks for being brave enough to post this, I don't find it funny.........I would be embarrassed if this happened to me Milo, so I completely understand ;)

Thanks Coop. Everyone else.... :p!

I didn't really think there would be a connection, but honestly it just seemed so coincidental. She goes to doggy day care all the time, though! I'm surprised she just happened to pick it up THAT time.

Mine have never ever done that tank goodness. But I have a parrot that humps his plastic towel ledge. It’s so embarrassing and he will do it all day long. I don’t want to see my baby do this.

I had a yorkie, Muffin that would hump a stuffed animal. She did that a lot. I don’t like seeing animals do that for some reason. I would rather not watch, lol.

But the dogs I have now never do it.

I really don't think he picked it up from you.
