Guardian breed forums are bad too. All about dominance stuff. I belong to a Cane Corso forum, and I mostly just pop in to look at the pics, because they annoy me with their talk about being alpha. They are always asking each other how much their dogs weigh too, I guess that's part of that "bigger is better" thing. I also belong to El Presa, the Presa Canario forum, and its actually pretty good, hardly any dominance stuff or anything.

I'm also in the "adoring your fit pugs" group Mandy. :)

Ugh sorry for the meltdown... I guess i'm just not a "pug person" and i really don't want to be. I care about health more than that super smushed nose or the "stocky" being equal to "obese" attitude.
Mandy, I'm not a "pug person" at all. Pugs are one of the breeds I have always said I would never, ever want to own. Do you know why? Because ALL I have EVER seen of pugs are the obese, wheezy types that can't go for walks and don't even look comfortable in their own skin!! Anybody can see they're not healthy and they don't look good at all that way.

I don't see many pugs where I live now, but where I used to live I saw lots of them. They were ALL either already overweight (young ones) or downright obese (adults to senior). If you made even one concerned comment along the lines of "Well he's a very nice dog, but doesn't seem comfortable" ... you would be told (in a snotty way) "You must not know the breed at all. This is the way all pugs are supposed to be!!" And this was from people who claimed to know and love the breed.

I remember thinking that if that's what they're "supposed to be" then maybe I'd rather not know the breed, thanks. And would certainly never own one.

But all that was before YOUR pugs. :)
Seeing pictures of your pugs and reading about all that your dogs can do has shown what a pug CAN be and SHOULD be. They CAN do things other than lay around and have to carried all the time. I used to see people trying to walk their pugs and they would always end up picking them up and carrying them because the dogs couldn't walk much without finally just sitting and refusing to even move.

And I know this part is purely aesthetic and a personal opinion ... but YOUR pugs are the only ones I have seen that I think are cute dogs!! Honestly, before seeing yours I had NEVER seen a cute pug ... they were all these obese, wheezy uncomfortable things that looked like they'd rather do anything than walk or move too much. People have different tastes, but to me that kind of pug is anything but "cute". Yours, however, are adorable. :)

I bet they would have a fit about the shape of my moms Pug mix then.

I honestly believe the problem with people is that they are too used to seeing fat dogs. Kind of like people believe an American pit bull terrier should be a fat big headed dog....nope...athletic, slim dogs...

We've had a pug before and he was a slim dog, with a hell of a lot of muscle. People never cease to amaze me these days....fat=unhealthy slim=healthy...I'd rather a slim dog.

I knew one girl who didn't walk her Retriever/Poodle mix because she thought it looked cuter fat. I never understood the appeal of obese animals!

I looked at your picture threads and your pugs are adorable! They look a lot healthier than the obese, wheezy pugs I see at the dog park. :)

If you guys think it's bad with dogs, I should introduce you to a few cat people. It seems acceptable in the cat communities to find overweight (even downright OBESE) cats "cute".
Emma says: Iz not cute? :(

In all seriousness, ignore the people telling you that your dogs are too skinny. They look fabulous. That forum sounds a bit nutty. Then again, Nilly's right on target with the nuttiest ones being cat people. . .

I never saw a pug I liked until I saw yours, Mandy. Then I said to myself, "Oh,that's what pugs are supposed to look like."

I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say "I have a Rottweiler that is twice the size of your's" as if to brag.

If I got a dollar for this as well, I think we'd both be millionaires! I can't tell you how many people have approached my to gush about the "dobies" their brother's friend's uncle's cousin raise... that are 120 pounds, harr de harr harr. Sorry kiddies, the Doberman is a MEDIUM sized breed.

Poor Ronin gets scoffed at when I tell people he's only 26.5" tall.... on the bottom end of the standard.... but he's 80lbs of muscle and power, he doesn't need to compensate for anything by being tall. ;)

Kaylee is 25" and 75ish lbs, a lot of people call her "small" but she's exactly the right size she should be. Sorry my dobes aren't big and chunky enough for some people...

As for dobe forums... some are good, some are bad. And the best ones always seem to be the ones that are completely private.

Of course Emma is ADORABLE!! I mean those people who either make their cats fat on purpose, or keep them fat on purpose, more than anything else.

I, too, think your pugs look good.

I can sympathize. My grandmother is sure that all my dogs are too thin. Especially Kya. She gives Kya ALOT of sympathy. I'm happy with where they are though.

Your dobes are BEAUTIFUL, absolutely breath-taking. I ought not to express an opinion on this because I know almost nothing about it, but I will anyway: Your dobes are what the breed is SUPPOSED to look like.
