well i work as a cashier... i get paid 7.00 an hour.. i work only 10-15 hours a week :( thats only 2 or 3 times a week.
not a big pay check at all!!! i get payed every 2 weeks...

why i say that is because my fiance brings in really good money... from being an electirican... and i want to start going to school for criminal justice... criminal investigation...

once our bills and stuff are all good should i quit my job and go to school? because my schedule is already crazy because i have to go around my fiances schedule because i have to go get him and take him to work everyday :( i dont know ive been just stressed out having to do all of this, and my boss just doesnt understand what i have to do and hes always trying to make my hours when i have to go get my fiance and stuff... like today i gotta work an hour past the time i gotta get my fiance... and all my boss tells me is he can wait or smart @#$ remarks ah! i just dont know, my job doesnt feel worth it to me... what do you all think? ( ive tryed getting advice from other people and they dont think its worth it )

I think if you're working that few hours a week, I would try to go to school while still working. Is it possible to work out with your employer a set schedule? Do you only work days, so you can take night classes - or the other way around? I worked 30-40+ hours a week in retail while I was in school. It's rough but it can be done.

^Ditto this.

My son is 20 years old, working 30 hours a week, and still attending college courses. He's a busy little man, but it can be done :D

My daughter (who is nearly 18) will also be keeping her PT job at KFC while attending Purdue...........both of them know that while Mom and Dad pay for school, we won't be giving them "fun money" to play with, they have to work and earn it themselves! LOL

Where are you that you're only getting paid $7 an hour?! I would say if you can swing it, do both school and work. I've done both - went to college without working last year, and recently started working while attending college this year (in a very high competitive program too). It's hard to do both, but this way you're atleast making an income.

My mommy and daddy didn't pay for college, I'm jealous Coop... want another kid? LOL

Why not work and go to school at the same time? 15 hours isn't much. I'm currently working about 36-40 hours per week and attending school full time. Come December I will be working 60 hours a week and going to school full time. It can be done. My parents don't pay for my school (or anything else) so I have no choice.

If you don't like your job, look for a new one. I know all to well the anguish of working in a job you hate. I found a new job I love (the vet clinic) and quit my old job even though I had only been there about 3 months. 3 months was more than enough for me to figure out I hated it.

I hope your children realize how lucky they are that they are getting their education paid for. :)

I think they do, I mean there were and still are lots of times they wanted to go here or there for family vacation and they had to be told no because it just wasn't in the budget........saving for college funds and all. So in a way, they've paid for them too, I guess it's all how you look at it.

AND....depending on just WHAT and WHERE they go to college, we might not have enough if they don't get scholarships to subsidize, so we'll see just how lucky they are down the road, LOL

We just want kids that can EVENTUALLY move OUT of here and take care of themselves! LOL (and maybe even US when we're old, shhhhhhhh, we aren't telling them that yet! haha)

I'm working about 60 hours a week, and taking 12 credits right now. It's a lot of work, not going to lie, and a lot of stress (I've spent this entire week going in to work at 8, and staying up till 2 writing papers!), but it's definitely doable, and the whole semester isn't like that at all.

I think that if you find a program that caters to working individuals (mine is a Friday night/Saturday program), you could make it work.

That said, $140/week isn't much, especially if your fiance makes good money. If you think that working is going to affect your grades negatively, then I would quit. Getting a high GPA is worth more, in my opinion, than $140/week, assuming you qualify for enough student loans to cover your tuition.

I made far more than $140 a week and still got a 4.0... you better believe I worked my ass off for it, but it CAN be done.

Oh, I totally agree that it CAN be done, but only the OP knows what she needs in order to learn/study/succeed. If she feels in her case that working in a stressful environment is going to harm her grades, it's not a risk I'd take for $140. (I'm risking it now, but we couldn't live without my income, so I didn't have a choice--if I had the luxury of Zach making enough for us to live comfortably off of, I'd go find a far less stressful job!)

If your fiancee makes plenty money, you could use the $140 a week to save up for a used car so it wouldn't be too stressful driving him and working around his schedule :)

I dunno, personally, even though it isn't as much as you want it to be, I have always taken pride in earning my very own money, even if it is just a bit here and there. I work full-time and go to school, too, so yes, I can be done :)

I think it is up to you and your SO

do you both agree that school should be your main focus and that you don't need your current job? it's important that you BOTH agree fully without being really strapped for cash because of the loss of income.

but if you both agree and focusing fully on your studies is your priority and will put you in a much better place if you do well ... then I say do what is in your heart and what you can agree on without putting too much stress on one person or the other.

YES working and school CAN be done... but if you will do better without the job and he agrees and you guys go over your finances and everything else that comes iwth one person working and one person not....

then it's really up to you and on one else's choice should influence what is best for you

Well no one here can decide what you should do... I go to school full-time and just picked up a part-time job that runs around 10-15 hours a week. And when I say JUST got the job, I mean I haven't even started working there yet lol so I don't totally know how it's going to be to balance it but I don't imagine it'll be difficult at all.

You and your fiance need to talk it over... but if you decide going to school is what you really want to do, instead of picking one or the other you could do both for a while and then quit the job if you're discovering it's too overwhelming. It doesn't have to be should you keep the job OR go to school.
