I'm not really sure about other people, but if I was going to shell out 18 grand for a ring, I wouldn't be looking on ebay. Id be going around to all the nicer jewelry stores. Why don't you take it to a jewelry store and have them sell it for you. They'll keep a % but its better than having the ring sitting around for a year. Just my .02
That's what I did with my first engagement ring and it sold pretty fast. I had it on consignment, granted I knew the store owner so that was to my advantage. But if you can find someone willing to sell it under consignment, you might get it sold faster. Don't go to a big name/franchised jewelry store, the guy who sold mine was a goldsmith and did his own work.

You'll have a hard time getting a clear pic of anything that small without a special lens or filter. I'd look up a product photographer and have them take some pics for you. Hope it sells :)

That's exactly the problem. People don't realize how little they get for their $$ in a store. This set was $22,000.00 in the store. I'm starting the price at $5000.00. You would pay at least $19,000.000 in a store for the exact same set with this quality of diamond.

It sucks, but people really just don't know that their best deals are not from a store...

I personally don't think the appraisal is correct because I can get an E color, Interal Flawless, excellent cut, 1 carat GIA certified diamond at a reputable jewerly store for much less than that!

I agree with everyone else that you may want to bring your ring to a jewerly store and sell it there. Granted that you may not get what it's appraised for, but they do buy back diamonds, and give you a pretty good price for them. Do you remember how much you paid for your ring? If you can show the jewery stores the receipt, I think they normally pay you 10 - 15% less of the purchased price.
I have 3 different independant certified appraisals done within 1 year of eachother and they all come within $200.00. This was the lowest of the 3 which would go with the ring.

The best price offered by the jeweler used by the Calgary police (best place to go), offered me just shy of $4000.00 and suggested ebay because of the fact that people are unaware how much the markup is in the stores. He also suggested the top jewelery auction but I haven't gone that route yet.
I have all of the original receipts as well.
Edited (sorry, I'm braindead today!!!!):eek::D

I also don't think you'll sell it because you have 0 feedback. I would never buy something $$$$ on ebay from someone with no feedback. Maybe try selling/buying some other things there first to get your feedback higher.

Have you considered having the rings melted down and then using the gold and diamonds to have a new piece made?

You'd have to find someone you can really trust, though, as I've known people to get their work back and find out the stones were switched for some of lesser value.

I have Renee, and even thought I'd just hang onto them and maybe Jordon could use them one day. IDK, I really just want rid of them. Can't stand to even have them in the house anymore after all the *&$%&^& they remind me of.
I may just take the $4,000.00 and run!!!!

Think of them as " things " . I agree with hanging on to pass on if you don't need the money . Many of my family " stones " have been passed on .

Turn them into something you'll love. Take pleasure in melting that gold down and having it transformed into something that is solely for YOU. Use the gold to make a different setting and find a stone that you love to have set in it, then take the diamonds and turn them into a stunning drop necklace . . . maybe the large stone central and the two smaller stones suspended as if they're in orbit on titanium concentric circles around it.

I can see reusing the gold but I wouldn't want the stones that close to my heart. Have you shopped around locally to see what you can get for it? I know it doesn't look good but...

And did you put it on craigslist?? At least if it's local people can come and see it in person and see the papers etc. I didn't notice the zero feedback before but that's a good point. I think it's really unlikely you'll sell them on ebay with no history and no good pics and a high price even though that is a good deal.

I would like to really see what the ring looks like. I can't tell really at all what it looks like from those pics. That may be part of the problem on why it isn't selling.
Seeing is all that you can do!! :nono:

Doc...as to your ad too, I suspect that with you having no feedback before is also going to alarm a lot of folks...that's a big purchase through a system that seems to be known for it's scams as of late unfortunately.....

I agree. I'm a total ebay rookie so I didn't even think about that.

I'm going to post it in a few local places now.

Saje - I did put it on craigslist Calgary...we'll see.

I do want to get rid of it. Even taking it out to take pictures today made me feel physically ill.

You can also try kijiji, it's like Craigslist, but seems more popular in our area.

I have to agree about wanting to get rid of it. I first took my ring from my first marriage and had the jeweler that that ring and another one I had to make into a pendant that was beautiful. I wore it for awhile, but it just brought back bad memories. When I moved here, I sold it to a local jeweler and was happy with what he gave me.
