What better way to educate people than to show them the realities of life?

You hide things behind closed doors and it comes back to BITE you.

Squirtsmom - It is an awful, tragic thing that happened to you, and i cannot possibly understand how that feels, but people cannot consider everything they post, because everything has potential to offend someone, and there would be no forum if this was the case.

I for one will tell my kids every gory detail of getting drunk, what can happen, how you feel, what it's like to have a hangover.

I want my kids to be able to come to me, and tell me what they are doing without the fear of it being a dirty secret. I will teach them responsibilty.

I have seen THE most responsible, well mannered, educated kids. Kids who NEVER end up a sick covered HEAP, or in a gutter, or pissing themselves, or having blackouts from booze when the time comes for them to start drinking.. (usually for most kids in secret in a park!!!)

No - these aren't children of religious folk.... Nor rich folk.... Nor people preaching the evils of drink...

These are children of people who party. I don't mean reckless all night parties, I am talking people who gather for a few days, and have a community, and party.

These kids have seen drink, and I swear, probably are more responsible than me and you put together... (they do NOT drink - but their attitudes are open and frank and they UNDERSTAND stuff). When their time comes, they won't be sneaking off with a bottle of cider and hiding in a park getting sh1t-faced like the kids of people who preach how AWFUL it is... nooo - they know what alcohol is, they know what it does - and it's not that big a deal to them. They have no interest nor desire in experimenting and near killing themselves.

Reading this I already KNOW people will be shocked? Horror??

Well - lets tame it down a bit.

In europe alcohol is something which is often given to children... it is open and honest, and people respect it, and it is part of every day life for them... And what comes with that is understanding and responsibility.

You see what I am saying? I hope....

Give the younger people on here a little MORE respect, and don't assume they are brainless morons that follow the adults.

You'd be suprised how responsible they actually are.

Demonise something which, lets face it, ALOT of adults do, is going to make it MUCH more attractive, and interesting, and worthy of experimenting with.

I'm sorry about your loss :( That is a horrible thing to happen to anyone, and I can't even imagine how you feel.

However, it would be difficult for anyone to stay away from certain topics. I do drink, although I would NEVER get behind the wheel after drinking. That is just stupid.

Most of our members, even the younger ones, are responsible and mature enough to not put another person's life in danger. Simply joining a forum to learn more and share information about their pets really shows their responsibility/maturity level. I know my 11 year old sister doesn't know the first thing about pet care... and wouldn't care either.

The thread was started as a fun thread . We've all done stupid things in our lives. ( me probably the most being the eldest ! ) . Squirt'sMom was hit by it as it was alcohol intake that shattered her life. She made a statement . I personally don't feel we should put down or give kudos to drinking . I've known many brought up in strict none drinking families go wild when out from under the thumb. I've also seen many brought up by alcoholic parents who never would touch the stuff. I really think this post is going no where except for giving our heartfelt support to to the OP. This is not a debate here . If you want one ....start a new thread.

Squirtsmom,

I can't even imagine and it breaks my heart to hear about what happened to your husband, your family. It makes me want to cry just thinking about it. I just want you to know how truly sorry I am for your loss. I hope somehow, your family finds peace again...:(

my dad was hit by a drunk driver and now hes death and has brain damage
he may not be dead, but hes not the same person he was

i see no problem with those threads just because they have nothing to do with driving, and are just a bit of fun

I'm really sorry for your loss, squirtsmom....really... I can understand that you are angry. But Louie wasn't intending to offend anyone...and she didn't condone drinking and driving in any way, nor did anyone else. What happened to your husband is tragic and there is no excuse for it. But please don't get angry at everyone who writes about partying that includes alcohol.

With that being said...shockingly, I have to give this :hail: to Dizzy, because she said what I was thinking in a great way.
