My brother and sister in law moved here about 2 years ago from New Jersey. She totally didn't get the whole Texas pride thing but the other day I heard her saying she loves it here and has totally changed her tune! She loves everything about it.

Something to consider though is where will you both be able to make a decent living? Consider the cost of living as well. I have no idea where you will be in Florida, but is the job market there about the same as wherever you would consider moving in TX?

I LOVE TX! I have lived here my entire life and live in the DFW area. Austin is also a REALLY neat city to check out! If I didn't live here, that would be my next choice. Houston also has a lot to offer and of course there are tons of other not so large cities that are neat too. San Antonio is very cool.

My DH is from Texas, just outside of Houston (in Alvin) We go back to visit family usually yearly. I really do like San Antonio and Austin, but the rest is really not for me.

Keep in mind, even if you are paying a lot less for housing, you may not be better off as often the incomes are directly related so you would probably be making less.

Even in College Station they get the roaches. I never found them inside but outside at night, especially around the sewer covers....ick.

They're inches long. I've never seen them that big outside of Texas. (everything's bigger in Texas, right?)
I do not want them in my house.
I think if an apt complex keeps their place clean, there shouldn't be a bug problem. But I guess that's just my way of thinking.

I won't move anywhere if I see a roach. I know that sounds high maintenance or whatever, but I just can't do it. I will beat the walls off the house to make sure there is no roaches, I look thoroughly in cabinets/bathrooms/etc to make sure there is none.

I have ALWAYS wanted to go to Dallas, its got the Cowboy Stadium :D

I'm not sure of the FL vs TX job market. But TJ's company has a plant in TX, also one in Louisiana, a couple in Kansas, a couple in Mississippi, and one or two somewhere else.
He is talking to Human Resources today to get all the info on how long he has to be there to transfer, will he be making the same pay if transferred, etc etc.

See above :)

San Antonio is AWESOME. I've been there 3 times and LOVED it.

I dont think it really has to do with cleanliness. My DH grew up in a nice area, clean house, etc...but there were always roaches. They kind of just are there.

Well CS/Bryan area aren't bad about them, but I also know there are a few little towns around them.

Like Georgetown? Anyone know about that place? TJ's brother use to live there.

I am from Texas, but a much different area from everyone else as I grew up in the panhandle in a SMALL town. Which happens to be my favorite part of Texas. Right now I live in one of the smaller cities, not anywhere near a metroplex like DFW, and I much prefer the wide open spaces.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it or not, but Texas real estate is going to be quite a bit cheaper than Florida real estate.

I'm from Texas and I loved it. Only thing I would change is the fire ants lol!

I've heard good things about Texas, especially the cheap housing costs and its way more cheaper than Cali. Maybe someday you'll live there :)

I already commented in your other thread, but I'll do do here as well.

I lived in Hammond for 6 years. I went to college at SLU and played soccer there as well. :D It's been 10 years though

I'm just starting to think about where I want to live after college (my last semester starts soon! :yikes:) and Texas is up there on my list too :) I have yet to actually visit it (hopefully I'll make it out there this summer!) but everything I've heard so far sounds great! I'm loving the idea of cheap housing, dog friendliness, and year round warmth!

Its a great place!
TJ and I are either going to Waco, TX or Hammond, LA, depending on what plant has an offering when he can transfer.
