I really can't stand people who don't like dogs!

Like I said, bostonbanker made a joke about birds. I love my birds as much as my dogs. I knew it was a joke and I am not upset about it.

If someone said to me something like "hey, look! Magnus soup!" I would not get upset over that either as it was a joke.

You don't know how many times and how many people make jokes about my smallest Chihuahua. They say things like, "Now, there's some good fishing bait." Or......"She'd make a fine meal for that eagle up there." Stupid, not very clever jokes, but I know the person doesn't really wish that on my dog. They just think they're a riot. I smile and...."Oh yes....she would indeed. Hardy, har, har." I don't let it bother me because I know that they would never like that to happen. And even if they did, so what. They're not worth my attention then. I'm not feeding my Chihuahua to the fish. LOL.

i love animals. but i mean i'm terrified of birds. i have one and love him to death but any other bird scares me because i don't know what it's going to do. same for any other animal.

i totally understand the dog being cared for as much as a child. that's how i feel about yoshi.

don't mean to beat the dead thread to death. but just wanted to put my two cents in

Geeze I'm glad I don't use your clinic.:yikes:
Why? I treat all the client's cats like I do my own dogs--I treat them with the utmost care & respect. I will love on them, talk nice to them, do my best to heal them, & then be glad when they are gone.

Just because I do not like cats, doesn't mean I am cruel to them.

I was walking Zoe around the neighborhood. I keep her off leash because she stays by me and minds me really well. We came upon a woman getting something out of the trunk of her car. Zoe went up to her, tail wagging, and stopped about 3 feet from her with her head down in a submissive pose. The woman got a disgusted look on her face and said "get your dog away from me!" Now Zoe is about the cutest, friendliest dog you ever want to meet. I called her over and she came immediately. The woman still looked annoyed so I said "You know you don't need to freak out. She just wanted to say hello. Have a nice day." What a sourpuss!!
Looks like I'm pretty late in replying to this post. Oh well ...

I've had similar (but less hostile) encounters with people around here when Manni sniffs their pockets when we walk by. He's always on leash when we're on his neighborhood walk, but he's still a little Deputy Dog and has to investigate everything.

It's a tricky thing to judge what to do when you're approaching someone on the sidewalk while you're walking your dog. Some people clearly want to stop and pet the dog and chat. Some people just want to keep walking. And some people wish that a car would suddenly veer off course and take you and your dog out.

With Manni, because he has such a sweet and gentle face, people typically respond well. However, there have been instances when he's sniffed people's pockets and they got upset. I think this would be even more frequent with a bully breed (regardless of whether or not it's fair).

i know people who:

don't like dogs [i have a dog]
don't like cats [i have three foster kittens]
don't like snakes [i have a snake]
don't like other reptiles/amphibs [i have newts, plan to get a beardie]
don't like rodents [i have a chinchilla]
don't like fish [i have two]

these people i am thinking of are people i would trust my very life with. some i would trust to raise my children. i don't think anything is wrong with them, or "missing." some of them are much better people than me.

i will agree that if someone has a i-want-to-destroy-you-hatred for all animals, i would have some serious concerns. but not liking a specific type of animal has nothing to do with being trustworthy. just because you've been "bitten" by someone who just so happens to not like [insert species here], doesn't mean all people of the same opinion are "biters."

PS: back to the original topic - i have been bitten, unprovoked, by two off leash dogs. once as a child and once recently. these were both dogs with no history of attacking, etc. so, needless to say, i tend not to enjoy having strange dogs run up to me off leash.

I simply feel sorry for people who dislike or fear dogs.

They obviously don't understand what they are missing out on ;).

I don't mind people who don't like dogs/animals, although I am annoyed by people who hate them for no reason. For instance, I have a friend who HATES dogs. Her reason is that growing up (on a farm) dogs were outside animals. She just keeps saying, "That's what dogs are for!" She thinks it's wrong that we have one inside and she doesn't like having Tojo around - even though he's never at her house and she's always the guest. She's kind of rude about it and she likes to yell at him, shove him, and so on. It's probably the most annoying thing she does and (no offense to her) she has a lot of annoying habits.

I am sorry but for me that friendship would be over. Not for not likeing dogs but for abusing mine by yelling and shoving him in My house.

I dont mind if people dont like dogs but I hate when people are rude and mean about it.

Well Bialinger I can tell you a guest in my home would NOT be a guest for long if they treated my dogs the way you described

I would show them the door.........and if I had to, I would boot them through it! My dogs are family, and they count on me to keep them safe........and that includes verbal/physical abuse from so called guests too!
