.. I don't typically do things like that but it just made me see red. It was an ad on the bulletin board in the entry, where anyone can put things up. I tend to glance at them and this one caught my eye - in big letters across the top it said "BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY". It's a guy who wants someone to be a partner in a dog breeding "business".
He's got fox red pointing labs (yeah, I had to look them up too). The male is 14 months, and he's got 2 females ages 10 and 12 months.
Right on this paper he states: "pups sell between $800 and $1800. 2 Females will average 32 pups/year. (Annual income $25,600 - $57.600)"
Doesn't that sound like he intends to start breeding his bitches every single season? All that was listed was a phone number, but I did a search online and found where he'd placed this same ad online - and then was able to go back and find where he lists his dogs on his website. According to that, he's got puppies due in December - which means he probably bred one of those young females.
Of course, at the ages of all three of his dogs, there's no possibility for OFA's on hips and elbows and given his emphasis on making money I kind of doubt there's been any sort of health certification done at all. It's obvious he doesn't care nearly as much about the dogs as he does the money.
Ack. I know I'm preaching to the crowd here, but man oh man - it just makes me sick. I know he'll find someone to help him who will be equally driven by money. Those poor females are not going to have any quality of life.
