Because he does run in brush and bushes and under trees, Cole does not wear a collar or tags. He is microchipped. I have been thinking about getting him tags for when we are out and about. A friend of mine has her name, and telephone embroidered on her boy's collar.

A freind of mine who worked in a Shelter said that many people do not know anything about microchips. If they don't find a name tag, they just keep the dog thinking that their is no way to find the owner. I read posts all the time, even on this site, about people losing their dogs, and they usually say that the dog had no name tag on when it disappeared.

Right now, we just have a city tag which does not have Kai's name on it.

However, I think we are going to get a tag with his name next time we go to Petsmart.

yep yep yep. also, it's a lot more effort for somebody to take the dog somewhere and have it scanned, so you're a lot more likely to get your dog back and get it back quickly if your contact info is there and visible.

my dogs both have their names on their tags. it didn't ever occur to me to *not* put them on. my dogs don't care what you call them, as long as you don't call them late for dinner ;)

Dou you put the Dogs name on the tag?
Yes - so that if they ever do get lost the person that finds them can use their name, which may be of some comfort to them.
My dogs both wear two tags, one with their name, my address and cell and a second with their regular vets address and office/emergency numbers. That way if they were ever lost and hurt (or something happened to me) they could go straight there when found, assuming their finder was honest and decent. They are both microchipped too.

Katie has 2 tags, one w/ her name and all of our info: address, cell phone, etc. The other is her Microchip tag w/ the website and her ID # so whoever found her could look up the website online and put in her # and pull up our info and the vets info. Most people dont know about microchipping, but hopefully most could figure out a website w/ a #.

Yes. Both of my dogs recognize their names and Ripley in particular is easily comforted by his name. Plus if someone finds my dog, it's one more bit of information I could have in order to identify him.

Riot has two ID tags - on both of his collars.

It says his name, address, city and my phone number.

It says all of that b/c him and I do lots of traveling and such for his shows.

There was a cute ID collar that I saw not to long ago - it said something like;

I'm Lost and Scared please return me to (phone number, address)

and the other said;

I'm Lost without my master (their name, address phone number)

Tango has 4 tags (2 plastic, 2 stainless steel) for various collars and a harness. She also has 2 embroidered collars. All of which have her name on them. The others have 1 tag each and Morgan also has an embroidered collar, again, all have names.

I always include their name. If my dog is close to someone that they can read the tag information, whether she has a name on her tag or not, if that person wants to keep her there is no doubt in my mind that they will. A new name is easily taught to a dog and who in their right mind would keep a dog, knowing full well that they have a home and call it by it's original name? If I put up signs that said "Missing Dog, responds to the name Tango" along with a photo and that person's neighbour or friend happened to see a poster, they'd know that that was my dog and hopefully have the decency to call me. That's just my opinion. Either way, even if the person had decided to keep her name atleast it would be one thing familier to her. I don't see any reason for a nmae not to be on a tag.

Besides their name, they also have my city/province aswell as my home phone number on their tags. I prefer not to put my address, and I don't have a cell. If I did have a cell, that number would be on it in place of my home phone number.

LOL, I'm so overprotective! Hudsie carries so much ID with him it's ridiculous. He has one ID tag hanging on his collar, and he also wears a wallet on his collar. :)

He's got his name, my name, address, and cell phone number. He has his license, his rabies tag, and a tag from a service for pets that get lost. He has his insurance info with a note saying to please administer any required life-saving treatment. And, last but not least, a note that says I will pay $500 for his return with no questions asked, cause I figure that's way more money than any thief would possibly get for him. The notes are on little pieces of plastic in permanent marker.

Do you think I covered everything??? LOL

There was what looked like a Miniature Doberman walking around the condo complex for the last couple of days. I tried to catch it a couple of times, but the dog would run away. It had a collar on put no ID tags. A teenager that lives in one of the condo's and has a dog that he is fairly abusive towards, got this dog, and took it home and now he is telling everyone that he is going to keep it. The other kids told him that the owner had been by a couple of times looking for the dog, but the other kids don't know where the owner lives.

I just got off the phone with Animal control, gave them the info on the dog, the kids address that now has the dog and my phone number. This entire fiasco could have been avoided if the dog had only had an ID tag on. In this situation, the chip is worthless because the dog will probably never be scanned by anyone as long as the kid holds onto it. :mad:
