how can i stop him from jumping up on my guests?

hi all

my dog is now abt 15 months now and still keeps jumping up on anyone who comes round,

as soon as the door knocks or the buzzer rings he barkers and gets hyper and works himself up,
he jumps up and just wont calm down, even if you send him in another room he just howls.


any tips on how to stop this???

A good thing to do with jumping is to tell your dog what to do, instead of what not to do. For example, when the doorbell rings ands guests come in, put your dog in a sit/stay. Hook the leash on him and keep him in control. If your dog is sitting, he can not possibly be jumping on people at the same time. Invinte some friends over and work on them coming in and greeting the dog low-key as possible, its a good exuse to hang out with them afterwards

As Brattinna said put him on the leash. I also use the command off, as soon as it looked as though they were going to jump I said "OFF!" and as they're jumping up I give a quick pop.

Also wanted to add.
Practice not only at home but on walks and in public dog parks. Home depot and Lowes lets you bring your dogs in. Make your dog sit and stay sitting by holding onto his collar and pushing down on his neck a bit. Just enough to keep him from jumping up. He will soon learn that he needs to sit in order to get attention no matter where he is.

great advice guys I just want to add also, that when someone comes to the door is your dog bounding to the door? Mine have been taught that I as leader answer the door. It is not their place, and they take their cues from me.

They love greeting visitors, they are allowed to do the meet and greet and generally are quite happy to lay at the visitors feet and doze, or they go to their beds. I understand however that mine aren't puppies. You still can teach him though, what I call these door/visitor lessons. Everynow and then of course my two do try and get to the door when it knocks or the doorbell rings. I make them sit and usually say "Excuse me"? I answer the door not you two, and send them to their beds lol The leash is a great Idea. Your pup can't jump if he is leashed, and being made to sit or drop. Also tell everyone family and friends that come over, that they should ignore him, and do what they can to assist with these lessons whilst they are visiting. Just explain to them that it's unacceptable, and you are trying to teach your pup some manners
