Looking at the puppy mill for sale thread....

That property costs £81,601.

You get 10 acres of land, a nice 3 Bedroom, 2 1/2 bath modular rancher on a full walkout basement with an office & a saferoom with a long driveway. There is a garage/shop, storage buildings & lots of nice trees & pasture. The property has a well and rural water. There are appr. 53 indoor/outdoor runs.

To buy a 3 bedroom semi-detached property in my street (no land) , it would cost you £249,950.

You get a deceptively spacious 3 Bedroom semi-detached house which extends to almost 1400 sq ft (hardly 10 acres!!). Having 2 Reception rooms, Kitchen and Utility at Ground Floor with Master Bedroom and En-suite Bathroom, 2 further Bedrooms, Family Bathroom and Study at First Floor level. There are forecourt Gardens with an enclosed garden at the rear and a newly built Garage.

And I know this house, I live near it. It's not big.

In Florida, house prices are ridiculous as well. You can't get a decent 3 bedroom house around here for less than $250,000+++.

My town was just voted the most desirable place to live in the UK..

Hahaha if you can believe it :)

House prices are going to ROCKET. And renting prices are already sky high because of the flooding.

Ok for people who have houses already. But not for ME!!

Wow, you're lucky. We saw a few two or three bedroom townhouses going for nearly 500k. What a way to waste money.

Dizzy, that looks great! We'll be right over :D

My house cost me $155K 4 years ago (new construction). It's a carriage home (twin with a garage) on about .16 acres. The identical house with fewer upgrades just sold for about $240K.

None of this equity means anything until I either want to sell or take out a HE loan, though.

Jessie, not only that, but homes in Florida still sell fast. I sold my mother's home in four days at asking price. Something has got to give down there.

Houses in my area are going down, but a 35yr old 4BR 2 bath townhome sells at around 350K, a SFH sells anywhere between $500K-1.2M. I have seen "luxury townhomes" for sale starting in the "low 800's."

Freakin' ponderous!

I know. It's crazy. If you ask me I sold our place for too much and then it went up in value after that besides. Just amazing. Boy when the bubble bursts down there, you will be able to get a really great house for a lot less money.

I see you are in Orlando. Properties went wayyyyyy up there in the past 5 years. Same with southern Fla. Our place was in Pompano Beach. Gawd I hated it there. lol.

My area is one of the few where housing prices have NOT been going down, even after the "bubble burst" on most of the real estate market. So . . . still renting!

There are a lot more houses just sitting around on the market, though.

Yes they have Gypsy. But these things always hit booming places like Florida last. It's coming though. But it probably won't be nearly as bad. Homes have been expensive in southern florida for a long time. They just got MORE expensive during the boom. A condo that sold for 150k down there maybe five years ago is worth 300k now. So you can see where an adjustment has to occur. The people who flipped them had a picnic though.

They really aren't where I'm at. We've got such a huge influx of people moving here from Florida and the Gulf states who are coming in, not to mention the people moving here from California and Up North, and they're running the housing prices up so that people who are from here won't be able to afford to buy for a long, long time. One of the things that's bringing people here, besides the mild climate, is that we have no state income taxes - really have relatively few taxes compared to almost everywhere else, and the property taxes are comparatively low.

In Feb of this year the house across the street became available. We bought it for $100K, and are renting it out to our son and daughter-in-law.
It's a 42 x30 cape, 3 BR 2 Bath, on 5 acres with 2 large garages. Granted it needed some updating.....probably was pretty fancy for 1970! We have done most of the work ourselves. New kitchen, new bath, flooring, paint, vinyl siding, etc.
We have about 120K in it now, but just got it reappraised for $170K. Houses are still pretty reasonable up in the great north woods!

I hate Florida... we aren't planning on buying any property here. We're planning on moving out of the state when my fiancee gets out of grad school, lol.

My parents live in South Florida, and the prices of property are even more ridiculous down there. Orlando property is pretty cheap in comparison!

I'm kinda amazed that Florida is so expensive knowing your house might be destroyed next time a hurricane hits :yikes: Don't want to imagine how much insurance costs either...

Here it's about $250 for a 3 bedroom townhouse too.. even in the 'bad' areas. It's pretty bad.

Be glad you aren't in CA. A typical tract house w/3 bdms. & 2 baths goes for roughly 1/2 million. That, believe it or not, is pretty much the median price for a house in CA now.
