When I was around 10, my parents were selling our horse named Annie. They offered to load annie for her, but the buyer was like "no I can do it myself, i've been around horses all my life." Sooooooo she loads annie, after she purchased her, off our property. She had the rope wrapped around her hand (Anyone who knows anything about horses knows NOT to do this. Even I knew that.) Annie got in the trailer, got spooked, threw her head up, it hit the top of the trailer, and she backed out madly, ripping off three of this stupid woman's fingers that were wrapped in the rope. My parents still lost, and were sued for damages. Just count yourself lucky you aren't losing 100 grand because of it. Horse accidents happen, it's unfortunate and I do see how you could feel responsible, but you weren't even there.
I would be careful though, make sure you're there next time. A friend of the family's horse was killed because of the farrier. He was told to wait for the owner to get there, but he didnt, horse went nuts and smashed his head, instant death. Lots and lots to worry about when it comes to horses.

I agree. As a ex Owner of a horse with issues, its not your fault. Everyone involved knew what he was like. I made sure everyone knew about Luke's issues. No one was allowed to do anything with him. If you did you knew the risks.

It was your friends fault and they need to accept the responsibility. I think her SO said things out of anger/worry that she was hurt.

Nope, not at fault at all. They knew what he was like and yet did it anyway.
