Help, I'm an idiot.:rofl1: OK, you can't help me with that part, but maybe you can help me with this. I agreed, under derress, to keep my daughter's dog, a BC and Aussie mix, while she goes to TX job hunting. Here's my problem, we didn't have time to do proper introductions, and my yellow lab mix HATES her. We did a quickie intro, I've also done the spit exchange (saw that somewhere here), but still not working. The dog, (BabyGirl) is about a year old, and mine (Goldie) is about 3. Poor BabyGirl is used to being in the house, but hubby said no to inside, then allowed her in when Goldie kept jumping on her. When she came inside she was just a bundle of energy, and of course she and Shane (my boxer puppy) have torn the house apart playing, they've been going at it for hours. I thought they would wear each other out but nope.
Earlier I had gone outside as I always do to play with Shane, Goldie and Shadow, and by default Ringo from our renters. Everytime BabyGirl tried to go for a toy, Goldie chased her off it, and snapped at her.
Help!

Wait a minute....

What exactly does Goldie do that tells you that she hates BabyGirl? It sounds like she jumps on BG and growls/snaps when BG tries to take one of her toys, is that right?

OK, maybe hate is too strong a word, but she seriously doesn't like her right now. Goldie won't let BG on the porch, and jumps on her when she goes after ANY toy. We have about 15 toys that they all take turns playing with. When BG goes chasing one, Goldie chases her down and jumps on her. Now, usually Goldie can't be bothered to actually chase a toy or a ball, but since BG is here all of a sudden Goldie is interested. But, she doesn't pick up the ball or toy, just makes BG leave it alone. Goldie growls and bites at her when BG gets anywhere near her or one of us. I'm hoping with time, Goldie will establish her seniority and settle down. Goldie has done some sniffing without growling.

I would lose all toys ..put em up..while your dog sitting. IF you can rotate than fine...they can have a toy individually. But as long as this is a temporary situation and you do not have time on your hands then you should stack the deck in your favor. WHen ever we have new dog company i get rid of all chewbones, toys, and treats go way way out smell zone. It keeps everything neutral which in the beginning is the way it should be. If there is a favorite chair and i feel someone might be gaurding about it, i will set something in it so neither has access. GIve them time to adjust without issues.

Thanks smkie, I had not even thought of putting away toys, since there are so many of them and the only one's that have favorites are Shane and Foxy, the two inside, and their toys are inside. We wound up letting BG inside last night and she did fine, except she and Shane played for 3 hours straight. When I let them both out, then back in Shane was exhausted so he snarfed at her, she left him alone. It was actually kind of funny since he's been the low dog on the totem pole since he got here. Foxy is just being a bitch, but that's just her personality. BG slept in my son's room so Shane could sleep without interupption. BG is just FULL of energy. She isn't used to a yard either so I think tonight she'll be alitte less energetic. She's usually put out on a run, then let right back in as soon as she does her business. Today she's been outside most of the day, and I've even spyed on them several times, she was running circles around Goldie trying to get her to play, Goldie just kept watching her without trying to jump on her. HURRAY! I think that we're making progress. today when I had to go to the doctor, and hubby and son left too, We crated BG and she did fine, and was ready to go out as soon as I let her out. She's really a sweet heart, and Goldie is too, I'm glad they seem to be working this out. Thanks for your support. I'll try to post some pics of her in a bit.
