Yesterday was a day of good karma for me.

In Lowes, a typical little old lady was looking at 50# bags of salt and you could tell she wanted one, so I picked one up an put it in her cart. She's thanking me up and down. I do this stuff all the time, after all what good is it for me to lift all these weights if I can't help someone pick up something they need. Plus they remind me of how my Mom might be if she were still living and it makes me feel good.

Later on we're in the grocery store, getting ready to hit the checkout line, and an older man comes up to me and says "Daniel Long?" and I say yes, and he holds out my wallet. I apparently dropped it in the parking lot, he found it, came into the store, and looked for me until he found me. I shook his hand and thanked him about a million times. I only had about 10 bucks in it but all my bank cards, license, etc- things that would be a complete pain in the butt to deal with.

So it goes to show- there are still good people left in this country and if you help someone, someone will help you.

There's a lot of good people in this country - you just never hear about them. Good for you and glad your wallet was found by a man who shares your values.

I really appreciate it when some younger and strong man helps me with something too heavy. I usually joke and tell the person, "Can you come home with me and unload this too?" LOL. I make sure they know I'm joking though.

What you did was very kind and I know so appreciated. And how nice it is to see that there are still a few honest people in the world. For that man to find you, to give you your wallet had to be a really good feeling.

I like to help elderly people too when I see them trying to reach something up high on a shelf. I am so Johnny on the spot for that, which is funny because I'm only 5'3". But I can stretch. LOL. I'll often help older people with putting their groceries in their car. One time a little old lady (well, not that old) had her back turned to me while she was bending into her back seat to put something away. I picked up a somewhat heavy bag of dog food...one of those medium sized ones out of her cart and was going to put it in her car. I hadn't even had time to speak and when she turned around, she thought I was stealing it.:rofl1: I could tell by her horrified expression and opened mouth. I quickly said, "Can I help you with this?" :D

I left my purse in one of two (wasn't sure which) stores when I was in Seattle. My daughter and I went back to find it. I was quite sure it would have been taken. I had a few hundred dollars in it, as I had just cashed a check, plus like you....all my credit cards and check book, license etc. I mean, this was the big city. She went in the furniture store where we had been and I went across the street into Petco, where we had also been. I remembered abandoning my cart by a book stand because I was going to look at something else and didn't want to manuver the cart. Then I forgot about the cart and that's where I left my purse. The manager had found this cart in an awkward place and put it back where it belonged and found my purse. They put it in a safe place and I claimed it. Everything was still in it. So, I lucked out.

I'm getting kind of forgetful lately. That's not the first time in recent times that I've left my purse in a cart. Another time was at the Walmart parking lot where you stow the carts. I wasn't gone for more than about 10 minutes, but came back and there it was, undisturbed.

Hope the whole year will be good Kharma for your birthday present. Glad you got your wallet back.

I love reading something like this. We hear too much of all the bad and not near enough of all those small but beautiful happenings.

That's sweet. It's encouraging to know there are still many good people around us. Many people have helped me and I often got chances to help others in need as well, which I really thanks for. I thank those good people who helped me and let me help them.

WONDERFUL! I am happy you got your wallet back, what a kind man to track you down instead of dropping it at the service desk........or heck, even stepping over it in the parking lot, LOL

I'm the same way Dan ;) I've had too many people through my life offer help when I need it most to ever turn a blind eye to someone else needing MY help. It's the little daily kindnesses which add up to a well lived life IMO.

Even as a child I can remember our car breaking down in the winter........another family stopped, took my mom and us kids to their home to be warm while 'the men' got the car back on track. I never forget those kinds of things and ALWAYS strive to be that someone for somebody else :)

I'm the same way with getting things off shelves for people... even people who are just slightly shorter than me. I have like crazy long monkey arms or something. =P If they can't reach it, I probably can... so I do. Sometimes they ask for help, but I also am really good at identifying that slightly forlorn look of somebody eyeing something on the top shelf, haha. My dad is REALLY tall so it's understandable for him to get stuff off top shelves for people - I'm only 5'9 but I still do it anyway. I guess I learned it from him.
I saw this lady at Wal-mart one night staring at a big bag of dog food on the floor and like, trying to think it into her cart I guess, LOL. She was trying to figure out how to pick it up and get it into her cart - it must have been like a 55 pound bag, it was definitely bigger than the 40 pounders. I was just passing by but saw her and stopped to ask "Do you want help with that?" and she goes "Oh!! Sure!" I think she thought I was asking if she wanted me to literally help her get it into the cart, like, you know, she grab one end and I grab the other... beause she looked REALLY surprised when I walked up, grabbed the bag in my arms, and hefted it into the cart for her on my own. I'm kinda slight, I was forever surprising people when I worked at Target with the amount of weight I could lift and carry, but I always forget that I apparently don't look as strong as I am.

I never thought about it as building up good karma before! I just do it 'cause, you know, just like you guys... why not? Boy, I bet I have a buttload of good karma in storage just waiting for the perfect moment to be unleashed though! That's a nice thought, haha. Though honestly, making somebody else's day a bit brighter makes MINE brighter just by default. I like helping out. I dunno why. Just do.
