My pup, Aj, is doing great with sledding. The only problem is that he doesnt seem to understand that i dont want him going to the bathroom while he has his harness on. I always let him have a bathroom break before and after i put his harness on. Last night he had pooped right in the trail of the sled, and the sled ran over it... Does anyone know how i could teach him not to without getting him scared of his harness?

He probably just has to go. I make sure mine have peed and pooped before we go bikejoring as it could be very dangerous if they need to stop to go while we're moving!

BTW, I love your springer! :)

I have an 'active pooper'. I make sure she goes before we do agility, before we go rollerblading, and 99% of the time she's then gotta go again or twice more to get that last little bit out. Which has been a problem while blading... I now keep a tight leash and close watch on her till she goes cause I know it's coming.

I pray when we start agility trials that the run is fast enough that if she goes beforehand, she won't need to go till after..

Ok. Yeah, with me its not dangerous, but i dont really enjoy cleaning poop off the bottom of my training sled (just a kiddy sled).

Thanx! I like yours too! :) I saw that picture of the back of your dog's head and I thought it was my dog! :lol-sign:

I had this problem with OC and sometimes still do but it has decreased greatly once we started running with more dogs because HE might stop to take a poop, but the other 3 dogs dont!!! He didn't exactly enjoy getting dragged while pooping....I dont blame him LOL Its not much of a big deal if youre only running one or two dogs and NOT in a race but when you have a whole team a dog stopping to poop is a big deal because while you're stopped the rest of the team can get tangled or be in the way of other teams, not to mention it slows your time down. Any time one of the dogs starts pooping in harness I show displeasure but I do not correct. When they poop while tied to the dog box or while out on a "poop walk" they get lots of praise!!

A show person once told me about the match stick trick but I wouldn't abuse that method by using it on every training run, I would limit it to races only.

Ok, thank you! Unfortunatly, in the town i live in, there is a limit to 2 dogs, and i already have 3. My other dog in sled training is way too mellow to keep going if Aj stops, so ill just have to keep with the praising when he poops when he isnt hooked up to the sled. Thanx for the tips! :)

Babylon poops sometime during a run too. Usually only happens when we are going at faster speeds (15+ mph), I then just slow them down a bit, so they dont run him over, and wait till he's done.
