After the game there was partying in the streets. Not only in vancouver but in other major cities. Streets in toronto were closed down, people were body surfing the crowd. There are pics of RCMP officers high fiving people. On some of the sites I am on the stories are just crazy. People climbing lamp posts, screaming and waving flags.
Wow, that's so great to hear.
When we watched the game yesterday I really wanted Canada to win, precisely
because it seemed it would be more important to Canadians as a whole. It is their national sport, and with this years Olympics right on their home soil ... well, kinda seemed like it was theirs to win. People here would have been happy if the USA won, but I don't think the reaction would have been quite as strong, with partying in the streets all across the country. From comments heard and headlines seen today, everyone here is really happy for the Canadians.
The Americans should also be very proud of their team! It was a very close game and they weren't expected to be a contender from gold. I was reading an article that said the american team had to reschedule their flights as they weren't considered to make it to the finals.
^^^ Read the same thing on the flight change!! None of the predictions expected the USA team to get to the finals, almost all are young and inexperienced, nealry all had never been in any previous Olympics. They were originally planning to fly home early, with some returning for the closing ceremonies. Those plans obviously changed, and they did play excellently!! It was a very exciting game, and I'm not a hockey fan ... lol.
