I don't know if it's just Rocky or German shepherds as a whole- but I was told German shepherds make the sweetest noises.

Rocky makes the coolest, sweetest noises A LOT. I can distinguish his mood by the way he sounds. I just LOVE 'em. Sometimes, it's like he's trying to speak English with me.

Anybody who else who has a German shepherd do this? Or anybody ELSES dogs do this at all?

Mine have all been big talkers. Bimmer adds some wolf-like language to the German Shepherd sounds. The grrrrls talk a lot too - including sounding like Chewbacca when they're complaining about something :D

Both of my boys are very vocal, but in different ways. Ripley "talks" about EVERYTHING. If he's happy, he's making noise. If he's frustrated, he's making noise. If he's angry he's making a -lot- of noise... I honestly think he just likes to hear his own voice. His 'tones' can vary from low, happy growls to eardrum-piercing screams, depending on his mood.

Dakota has attitude, lol :D He will yell at me if I confuse him during training, or if I ask him to do something he really doesn't want to. He does it, but he stomps and talks back while he's doing it. Sometimes it's just a "Grrrr-whine" and sometimes it's "RAWR!" I know when we start in agility he is going to be one of those dogs that never shuts up on the course. Lol.

Yes the three that I have now are very much talkers. Not barkers they are quiet that way but they grumble under their breath alot. I find it funny and very sweet.

that describes quigley to a "T". lol

he has quite a repertoire of different noises, from grumbling uner his breath to various growls (distinct differences from play-growls to annoyed-growls to angry-growls), whines, yaps, barks, woofs and yips. he also makes a deep whooo-whoo baying kind of sound that's not quite a howl.

the worst of them all is a high-pitched screech that he does when he hears the sirens of police cars or firetrucks closeby. he doesn't make this noise at anything else.

I don't have gsds but Roxie has always been very vocal in her opionions. Not exceedingling loud but she lets me know her moods. If she is not happy about something she grumbles under her breath. There are times I swear, we have had conversations. She seems to understand everything I say. Brutus is also starting to let me know he opinions. It is so funny he is only 5 months and he has this really deep voice, but also has this little high pitch thing.
I think it is so cute when they tilt their heads to listen.

Tippy has the most adorable little howl. Whenever she's happy, she starts her "awooowoowoowooooooo!" really loudly. She also has noises for when she's upset - if she's mad at me she'll go, "humph!" in a low tone. She does this mainly when I won't pet her even though she wants me to, the spoiled little Princess.

uhh... Cooper burps when he is full. lol He's not a big talker tho when he wants something he makes a low whimper, gets down really low, digs his nose into the ground and looks up at me with puppy eyes... spoiled dog... he he

I believe that Cooper understands english perfectly tho, when I ask him for something he does it... he does ignore me at times tho when ever he is mad at me... it's cute

Our huskies talk to me quite a bit especially when they come in the house in the morning or when I come home from work. They both usually make woo-woo sounds like they are chewing me out for not seeing them in so long. They also talk to each other when they are playing.
