They don't have to wait to be invited up, but if they're getting ready to get up and we tell them to stay off they need to, or if we want to sit where they're sitting they have to get off. So I guess our only real furniture rule is "you have to get or stay off if I tell you to."

our only rule is that when I say "off" they have to get on the floor from whatever comfy couch they are on. I usually only tell them to get off when I need a place to sit!

Pretty much no rules, they definitely don't wait for an invite LOL. I just require that they move if I need them too, don't guard their spots, and don't run on the furniture. That last stipulation came into effect when Ollie and Keeva ran across me while I was drinking hot coffee.

They're good about not getting up on something if I ask them not to, though, or staying on something if I ask them to, etc. Not something I really "taught," just something we've already expected and it's never been a problem.

Except for last night, when Blossom was on the pillow I've been using to prop my foot up, and went completely limp when I tried to pull it out from under her. The dog who leaps into action because she hears me inhale. Completely. Limp. 50 lbs of wet noodle.

Bitch.

Well at my aunt's house it's no dogs allowed on the bed. The dogs follow it alright and they have their own sofa.

In my house it's dogs allowed anywhere so they all like to lie on the bed.

Those of you with no rules, are your dogs at least polite about getting on furniture, or no? Lol the reason I require at least an "invite" is because my experience with Juno and Cajun is that, when there are NO boundaries regarding furniture, they fly up their without a moment's notice and knock people out in the process. The invite is more for safety purposes. :p

Both are allowed up on couch and bed whenever they want. THe only rules are if I say "off" you get off. If I say "stay off" you stay off. And if I sit down and you're in the way you better move or you're getting squished LOL I guess other than that, I don't like being jumped all over, and no play on the couch.

She's allowed up whenever she wants. Only rules are she moves if I need her to, and if she's going to zoom around like a bat out of hell she has to go on the floor.:rofl1:

Everyone but Pepper. But Pepper also thinks she needs to become one with you, so her version of getting on the couch is to actually be on top of you. Or to suddenly appear behind you as you're sitting down in hopes that as you sit on her, her soul and body will intertwine with yours.

Yeah, he's never been a bother to anyone. He's not a lovey cuddly type dog anyway but he wants to be near. So he usually avoids jumping on the section of the couch where other people are already sitting anyway. He is honestly usually laying on the top of the couches, like a cat. All our dogs under 20lbs are no problem at all on the furniture. I think size does make a difference in some cases. My grandma's dogs, Foxhound and giant freakin' Goldendoodle have no manners whatsoever and annoy the **** out of me on the couch.

The furry two: Yes, when invited. Journey's favourite time of the day is cuddling on the couch with me. I don't invite Dance up as often, because she doesn't really cuddle and doesn't really care. Both are polite about the invite. I can't stand it when I'm sitting on the couch and suddenly have a dog in my lap causing me to spill my drink or something. They have to be polite about it or they lose their privilege.

The Dobermans: No. Their hair is prickly and makes me break out in hives, so I don't like it stuck all over the furniture. And, nothing against them cause it isn't their fault, but I find that they smell more 'doggy' than the other two and I don't want my furniture to smell like dogs. And, to top it all off, my couch is far too small for dogs of their size. And they're both rather pushy and would totally ignore the "when invited" rule and just end up making the couch their new bed.
