This has come up recently in a LOT of threads (and quite a few times in chat, too) so I figured I'd start one on it.

There are some things that are just "Not Done" - basically frowned upon - on forums, and I'd like to hear from everyone what they think about it.. such things such as going back and editing a post someone has already quoted, editing out posts when they have already been responded to, bumping many threads at a time... those are just a couple of things.

We really do seem to have quite a list of unwritten rules, and maybe it's time to write them down and discuss them.

A few to start with that I can remember off the top of my head:

Don't use all caps UNLESS YOU ARE YELLING!
No advertising except in the correct subforum for it
Don't use hard-to-read colors for your posts, or crazy fonts, as it makes them hard to read
Don't use excessively small or large fonts for your entire posts
Use proper spelling/grammar most of the time

Some of these are more Chaz-centric etiquette than everywhere, such as the spelling/grammar one... on quite a few forums I've been on you're the odd one out if you're familiar with proper capitalization and punctuation... but I do hope those forums are the exception rather than the rule.

Perhaps not at this forum BUT...

excessively large, or busy signatures are frowned up many places I have been. Sizes are capped out of respect for members who do not want to scrooollll down for ages just to read a thread due to large or "busy" sigs.

Quoting the entire thread with an "I agree" will be considered post whoring.

Ooooh yeah, Gina. That annoys the cr*p out of people.

Salask, on most forums hijacking is taboo.. but.. um.. not here. Pretty much anything except a serious thread is fair game.

Etiquette is a must !!! I find it hard not to correct some of the postings language wise ..... but bite my fingers as I do my tongue when listening to one speaking !
