I'm having one of those "logic vs. emotion" guilt trips right now.

My oldest chow, Kylee, will have her 16th birthday on Saturday. I realize that dogs don't KNOW their birthdays. I know that to her it's just another day and the only one that the date is truly important to is ME. The logical side of me recognizes this .. *L*

But I feel guilty because I will be gone on her birthday! I leave Friday for a set of obedience trials 150 miles north of here and will be back on Sunday. I thought about taking her with me but that's a long way for an old dog to have to travel and she'll be happier and more comfortable staying with Mom. I know if I ask, Mom will give her some special treats on her birthday .. *LOL* .. Mom will probably think I'm nuts, but she'd do it!

Can anyone relate to this completely illogical feeling of guilt about my DOG'S BIRTHDAY? It's not like I celebrate her birthday every year, but I have sure recognized it and done something with her (a special walk, treats, etc.) the last several years. If it were one of the younger dogs it wouldn't seem so important, but I know my time with Kylee is limited.

On Saturday Khana will be trying for her CD title .. I'll be sure to tell her to "do it for Ky!".

No, you aren't nuts ;)

Do something special before you go, leave some sort of favorite treat/meal for Kylee with your Mom, and bring her something . . . . along with Khana's CD title, which, of course, she will be getting! :)

Yeah ditto what Grammy and Renee said, you could celebrate before and/or after your trip and bring her something nice back.

Good luck too!

FEELINGS of Guilt

Whew, thanks all for making me feel like I'm not being completely irrational! *L*

I will certainly celebrate with Kylee when I get back. She'll enjoy the weekend with Mom, too.

I'm running around like crazy tonight trying to get ready to head out tomorrow. I always seem to have last minute stuff that takes longer than expected!

blue - the trials are in Anchorage. Next show/trial is in Palmer in November, though - I've never gone to that one as it's an obedience trial the first day, conformation show the next day and since I usually only show in obedience it seems a waste to go 200 miles for one day of showing.

I'll check in next week and let everyone know how Khana did!
