Dear Governor Schwarzenegger and the State Senate;

I am writing you in regard to this new bill that will impact dog breeders indiscriminately, and I sincerely hope you will please read this letter. The problem with this current bill is that it will not stop the amount of dogs being badly bred, but only QUALITY dog breeders. Most of the dogs that end up in the pounds and abandoned are what are called “Puppy Farm†dogs. A “Puppy Farm†is a business that is usually not located in California, that breed dogs constantly and a lot of inbreeding occurs, and then sells these dogs to PET STORES. There are many dogs out there that are the results of this bad breeding. These dogs end up being sold by Pet stores to people who will not keep the dog etcetera, or the dogs themselves will end up getting diseases such as cancer and etcetera. This bill will not help with that problem. Many of these puppy farms are located in Mexico or out of state.

IT WOULD BE BETTER TO BAN SELLING DOGS IN PET STORES.

This bill also prevents AKC shows and AKC breeding and severely hinders the responsible upkeep of good and reliable dog breeds.

I recently lost my dog due to the fact I bought him from a store. He was a Puppy farm dog. He died at 4 years old because he had lymphoma. I think a good bill needs to be drafted that will hinder Puppy Farms, NOT responsible breeders. I will be purchasing a dog for $2000 from a local breeder recommended to me by the AKC and the local club as recommended by the National AKC dog club of that breed. A responsible and legitimate breeder only has a few litters during the dog’s life, and will only promote healthy breeding not in-breeding. For people who want decent and healthy dogs, this costs more, but insures a better dog. So I am willing to spend that much money for a healthy dog., This bill totally ignores the difference and just hits every single breeder out there, which is “neither pathological nor inane, but DUMBâ€, to quote e.e. cummings.

Please negate this bill and insist on a RESPONSIBLE bill.

Please.

Well, sounds fine, but the only advice I'll give you (besides fix the spelling/grammar mistakes) is to make sure to mail a hard copy as well as sending the email. Politicians see mailed letters as having more thought and effort put into them. Good luck, hope you get a response!

What spelling mistakes? Everything is spelled correctly. The name of the poet I quoted from is also correct. He never used caps and that is his legitimate name. And the response I wish for is to have this bill cancelled. It iis irresponsible.

I certainly understand that you want this bill cancelled, and I certainly hope you at least cause the governor and senate to take a second look at the bill. I think what you're doing is great, and I apologize if I have discouraged you in any way.

In regards to your question to me: I sent you a PM.

you are saying your dog died from lymphoma because he was a puppy mill dog? My dad had lymphoma (5 years cancer free now!) and I fail to see the correlation between lymphoma and puppy mills.
