First off, i cant stand rap music, i hate it, i hate hearing it on commericials and movies, in the car next to me etc.... and it has nothing to do with racism, i hate white rappers too, but i like kravitz and hendrix. so dont go there.

My biggest problem is when i hear a rapper "borrow" a great rock song. For example, puff daddy p. diddy whatever he is called stole Led Zepplin and sang over it, on the new charger commercial there are rappers singing over nazareth "hair of the dog", and i just recently heard some rapper singing over "crazy train". Does this bother anyone else?

Then people who love rap say how talented and skilled the rappers are, and say rock is crap. It just irritates me...

I love 60s 70s 80s and early 90s rock...even though i was only alive the last half of the 80s....
It makes me sad that there will never be any bands as great as zepplin, ac/dc, zz top etc again... i would also love it if the hair/glam band look would come back, like skid row, motley crue, poison etc........
I guess it all bothers me because music makes me so happy, and its a big part of me, i would die without it.

Music is doomed.....

They don't steal it,its all legal, when its not you hear about it:p I actually love when they sample,I like a lot of the old songs but they don't sound good with my subs.

I'll admitt some rap is retarted,I hate some of it. But its what sounds the best at competitions and its just what I end up listening to. (I'm not in love with a stripper,I hate that song!but I still play it!)

And yes,I am one of those annoying people with the loud music:) I'm waiting for a new sub and amp right now so I can play my rap music lounder! I've been stuck with some piece of crap and I can't wait to get my new stuff.

Yah it's legal. It's called doing a cover.

Without covers, the Beatles wouldn't exist. They started as a cover band.

But yah P. Diddy's 'cover' of Kashmir was disgraceful.

Besides, Hendrix did a cover of All Along the Watchtower.

REOSpeedwagon does a lot of covers.

CCR has three covers. Heard it through the Grapevine was first done by the Temptations.

Tom Petty's 'Into the Great Wide Open' is a cover.

There are covers everywhere. It's not illegal just lame when you destroy a good song.

Edit:
And yes,I am one of those annoying people with the loud music I'm waiting for a new sub and amp right now so I can play my rap music lounder! I've been stuck with some piece of crap and I can't wait to get my new stuff
Please, for the love of god, TURN YOUR **** MUSIC DOWN!

I don't want to feel you coming before I hear you and I definately don't want your music drowning out mine when we're stopped at the light. I know you think everyone loves your choice in music and wants to jam to whatever you're listening to but they don't and it's annoying.

i dont have a problem with covers, but to me that means that they sing the song like the original, like godsmack was a cover band for alice in chains, and i think metallicas cover band was called slither, i dont have a problem with rock using rock. Rappers only use the back ground music and make up a totally different song to sing over it. totally different situation to me. One cover i did hate was mariah carey singing "bringing on the heart ache."

It's called sampling. Not just rappers do it... so do a lot of electronica/dance djs... and when it's done well... it's amazing. Actually I think most genres of music either cover or sample. Sounds to me like you just hate rap.... not really sampling or covering. Because if you truely hate sampling or covering you'd probably be hating the music you listen to on a daily basis as well...

I don't really listen to Rap so I don't really pay attention. The only rapper I keep track of is Eminem just because his stuff is really deep. I like some of
D12 stuff too but im not a HUGE fan I really wouldn't even call me a fan.

I think alot of it sounds the same and is about alot of the same stuff. And I can do with out the music videos and the girls dressed well not so dressed the way they are. Im not a prude but I just don't like looking at that lol.

I do...

I've never heard anyone call Eminem deep before though. That's a new one.
Less of his songs are about parties and crap like that. Its more about his life and his daughter.

Im not talking about the Slim Shady crap. Though I do like "Dear Stan" I think it is just because its a really good look at an obsessed fan.

In all truthfulness he reminds me of my brother and thats anouther reason I like him so much.

If you're looking for deep stuff I think you'd really like classic rock. The songs have more depth to them than present day stuff.

A lot of them are love songs but it's about true love and not just hooking up with random chicks at parties.

Try and snag a copy of The Piano Man by Billy Joel. I just discovered that song recently and love it. It's so awesome.

Oh I listen to classic rock too. Honestly I like it alot better then recent stuff. Its just I don't limit myself I listen to alittle bit of everything. Except for todays "pop music" can't stand the boy bands and those chicks about as deep as a bird bath.

Just to clarify: i wasnt saying that i only hate sampling, i hate rap and rappers who sample. I hate all rap, not just rap that uses my music.
i dont mind if someone respectfully does a cover song, all up and coming bands do cover songs. But rappers dont, they just take the music and sing something totally different over it, i feel like it is a disgrace. I dont think that rappers are talented in any way, or even consider them as musicians, a musician is someone who can sing, or play an istrument, rappers can do neither. I just think that it is garbage and i hope that its popularity will die out. I dont want to rap to my cell phone, mcmuffin, or anything else.

Anyway this is only my opinion, im not telling anyone they should feel this way also, or trying to offend anyone. .I just want to hear other peoples opinion on the subject.

Well I wouldn't limit myself to one genre of music either but I find it extremely hard to accept rap as 'music'.

It rarely has instruments in it, most of the time it's just rhyming really fast and some screaming.

Now, obviously opera proves that you don't have to have instruments to have good music, but the way Rap is done is just...awful.

I mean I'll listen to metal where I can't understand a word they're saying because they have really good rhythym and guitar solos. Hell Techno is a favorite of mine because there's hardly any lyrics most the time.

I guess it's all about the instruments to me. Lyrics are great but plenty of hit songs have no lyrics in them, or very few, and do just fine.

But my point was there are a lot of djs (ORB, DJ Keoki felix da housecat come to mind) that ALSO sample and create new music out of old music via the use of sampling, computers, and sometimes instruments. It's not JUST RAPPERS who do it... Plenty of Djs for dance clubs (Madonna's whole career comes to mind) sample music... some of my own favorite DJs (example DJ WhiteRabbit - who is stationed both in Madison, WI and Japan - scroll down towards the bottom of the page and you can listen to some of his "hybrids") in my own town sample songs, blending two or three together to make new works of "art."

I've also seen "rock" bands sample chords from other songs, and sing on top of it their OWN lyrics. Anyone remember the Bittersweet Symphony from the Verve travesty? They sampled a cover of a The Rolling Stones (w/o complete permission i believe) for this song that had completely different lyrics.

So, my entire point is ... sampling isn't just something Rappers do... a lot of artists do it. And i see nothing wrong with it...

Yeah i get your point and i agree with you, you are right, lots of other people use sampling.
But i only hate it when rappers do it, that may not sound right but thats how i feell. I also feel that everyone who samples should get permission, thats messed up if they dont.

I have to admit that it is weird to hear Rappers do covers of Rock songs. But thats because its well rock songs.......And I'll get tricked into thinking its the song and then someone starts rapping and im like "oh okay time to find a new song". I guess I just figure if its not broke don't fix it. But I generally don't like covers because no one can do it better then the original in my opinion.

I don't like it, but it's not like it's anything new. Everyone remakes everyone else's stuff.

-Jessica Simpson and that gawdawful remake of "These Boots are Made for Walking"

-Mark Chesnutt committing sacrilege and redoing Aerosmiths "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" as a country yodel.

-And I've even heard of a country group remaking Snoop's "Gin & Juice".

-Gwen Stefani butchering the broadway song "Fiddler on the Roof" and calling it "Rich Girl." *shudders*

I could go on for hours. Some remakes I actually like. But others? I just wish that these musical "artists" (and I use the term VERY loosely) actually try to be original.
