I'm curious about my moms Pekingese who was adopted when she was 3 months old and had already been spayed at such a young age. She recently applied for another dog to adopt which required all current dogs in the household be spayed or neutered. When they did the home visit, the lady said it didnt look like she was every spayed, no marks or scars? Is there suppose to be a noticeable scar? She thinks she might get turned down because of this

Here Pekingese is now 10 months.

that's stupid. you can't tell on a lot of dogs if they were ever spayed or not. Does your mom have the receipt/certificate from the vet.

She shouldnt get turned down over this. Get a not from a vet that did the spay or the breeder/rescue she got it from.

Sometimes the scars can heal

The rescue group is "no longer around" ...... can her normal Vet just "testify" to this? How will they know with out actually looking inside?

The shelter where I got my last dog had to open her up to verify she'd been spayed. They've been in business for 20 years and have a vet clinic in the same building, so if they couldn't tell for sure without surgery, there's no way this rescue could. If I were your mom, I'd stop worrying about being turned down and start worrying about whether I'd want to get a dog from this organization.

Ilsa's scar is nonexistent. I think it just depends on who does the surgery and at what age - my neighbor's GSD mix has a huge, icky scar from her spay... and she was spayed five years ago!

Roxie has a pin scratch, you have to know where it is to find it, and Maggies doesn't show at all. Why would it matter if the other dogs are spayed or neutered if the one she is adopting is already or going to be fixed?

That's what I was thinking... most shelters I have inquired on before have the same policy. I guess they want everybody on "the same page" with the pet population being out of control.

Kota is of course all hairy but you can't see it at all. If you part her hair where it should be you don't see anything. Could you perhaps have an ultrasound done? Would that prove it?

I agree that this should be in some records...even the rescued paper show if they are spayed or neutered.
