If I had a BA in underwater basketweaving I could get certified as a mediator, and there is a shortage of mediators to work on land cases - which I'm far more qualified to do than 99.9% of the attorneys and judges out there with my backgrounds . . . but no paper means I'm not even allowed to think about it  A typical land mediation here starts at around $900. And goes up from there.
There is at least 1 state that would let you be a mediator without a BA.

I have a BA in European history and am currently working on my teaching credentials. After that I'll teach in highschool while working towards a PhD in art history so I can be a college prof. Honestly even if it was worth nothing I'd be an academic. I just love learning new things.

BA in History. An Associates of Applied Science in Network Technology from a trade school.

I only use the AAS as I am a Network Engineer. The BA just makes a me know a lot of useless trivia and a good Trivial Pursuit player. LOL

I asked out of curiosity, mostly. I have a BA in Psychology and to get anywhere in that field, I need a PhD. I don't know if I want to pursue it that far. I'm not in a field that utilizes my degree per say...Real Estate is a good area that doesn't require a 4yr degree to make good money. I'm in the real estate field and it's astounding how many snooty real estate agents walk around with a minimal education.
Does it hurt their performance as real estate agents? That's really the important question. Snootiness is a flaw even if you have every degree in the book . . .

I have a BS in Social Psychology. I learned quickly that this didn't mean CRAP as far as getting a job; therefore, I am currently working on my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy. To do therapy you must have a Master's, but even then I have to spend two years getting licensed. But I think getting a Master's opens up a lot of possibilities. In some colleges you can actually teach with a Master's degree in your respective field.

This day and age it seems like its become more necessary to do graduate work once you complete a Bachelor's. However, I don't necessarily think that higher education means more money. For me, its more about establishing a meaningful career in something I havea passion for.

I have a BA in Accounting and my CPA license. I had almost enough hours to take the CPA exam without an MA so I just took a couple extra classes to take it. Although I don't need an MA for my field of work I wish I had gotten one and am contemplating going back to get one b/c I think I might like to teach accounting at a University someday.

For me, there are a lot of people in my industry that have never even studies accounting. You could teach the basics to anyone....without a degree and the license though, you can't be in practic for yourself or hold yourself out as a professional. Also, in looking for a job, many positions require it. I would be very limited in the actual jobs I could find and would started at a much lower level of pay.

Now, my husband was in the military and doesn't have a degree. He got experience in the military and makes more money than me. Some of that is by choice b/c I have stayed at a very small firm with the potential to take over someday and not really wanting to work in such a corporate environment, but it is very possible to be successful without a degree. I think you options are more limited though.

I have a B.S. in Exerice Science which is a pre-Physical Therapy degree. With that degree & passing the national & state certification, I am a licensed Exercise Physiologist. I also wracked up 16 hours towards a Master's in Exercise Science at the same college. However, I hated that job and went on to Physical Therapy school. After not even a month at LUS-New Orleans, I dropped out as it wasn't my calling and I just couldn't justify $80,000+ in debt to do a job I didn't want to do. (mind you this was no surprise and I had worked 2 years as a rehab tech at a large hospital aiding in physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, & cardiac rehab and hard a short stint as a Phsiologist in cardiac rehab so I already was unhappy)

Soooo, I got a job at a local veterinary clinic and teamed up with 1 of the vets to do an on-the-job schooling & accreditation program for Veterinary Technology. So after a little more than a year, I got an Associate's degree and am now a certified/licensed Vet Tech. That degree I actually use and love.

But since the birth of Cole, I took off a full year and really couldn't go back as a part-time tech, so I took an easy administrative assistant position with my dad's environmental consulting firm (he's a Civil/Environmental Engineer and I had worked with him from the time I was 13-years-old). Now I'm doing an online AutoCAD course in which I will achieve certification in that upon completion of the final project.

But yet again, after the birth of this next child, I will resume my favorite job of all - being a stay-at-home mom. :)

ahh those Liberal Arts degrees, lol

I have a BA in Political Science... everyone wants to know what that means I am qualified to do and I tell them "go to grad school" :lol-sign:

I am in the process of getting a JD which I hope helps more then the poli sci degree did.

At least I can say I loved undergrad, I find politics fascinating... so I really enjoyed all the classes I took on the topic, even if it didnt qualify me to do much,

I don't think I posted this: I have a BS in English creative writing. I loved getting the degree and I do use it often, just not making money with it directly.

It doesn't hurt their performance per say...I think a well rounded education (which is what most universities aspire for you to obtain under their programs) does enhance you as a person. Makes you think at a higher level...so to speak.

Well, that's always a virtue of education :D However, I do feel that requiring people to get a degree they won't use before you will hire them is stupid and wasteful . . . and fills colleges with people who are doing time and racking up debt instead of wanting to learn.
