This is the puppymill that Charlie came from. I believe the GSD in the top pic is actually Charlie's mother. I've been working for some time to shut this place down and we have finally made some progress but it is not enough. I spoke with the Prosecutor's office this morning and learned that they do not intend to file any criminal charges "because she was so cooperative".

Please help me let this prosecutor know how we feel about puppymills, and this one in particular. This woman has left my Charlie, and hundreds and hundreds of others with a life of pain and misery. Charlie is likely going to be facing the needle soon, and there is a special place in hell for this woman who bred him.

PLEASE write to the prosecutor, and crosspost this all over the internet, anywhere you can think of. Thanks!

Sample letter to the prosecutor (would be best to send this via snail mail)

Dear Attorney Springer:

In regard to Ms. Clara Vowell's puppymill operation in Sullivan County, I find it appalling that charges may not be filed against Ms. Vowell. She clearly violated Indiana's Animal cruelty and animal neglect laws (which are sparse to say the least), yet apparently there will be no repercussions because she was cooperative with the investigation. You are sending a very strong message to your community, which is that it is OK to commit a crime, and you will not receive any consequences as long as you are cooperative with the investigation. Is this how you treat child abusers and other criminals in your county? Or is it only in regard to animal welfare? The animal rights community is a very large one, and those who are passionate to fight puppymills are very vocal. I understand that yours is an elected position, is it not? I would consider that when deciding whether or not to pursue criminal charges against Ms. Vowell. I am certain that the results of your decision will be seen at the polls this year.

Oh my... :(
I really hope they shut that place down.
And i am so sorry to hear about Charlie possibly getting the needle.

Also, can you adopt Charlie's mom, or rescue her and foster her out?

I wish I could. But I have too much on my plate with Charlie right now. She is currently in a rescue in St. Louis. Anyone who might be interested in her can call the rescue at 314-951-1562. I doubt if she is adoptable yet.

Prosecutors are very busy people ... they are swamped with cases and can only take a small percentage to court...once a case is taken to court it requires a lot of effort and cooperation in order to get a conviction... prosecutors become very good at determining what cases will get a guilty plea and which will not. IMO posting a prosecutors address all over the internet so hundreds of people will send them letters telling them how to do a job that they are very well trained to do already is rude.

Puppymills are horrible, there are many ways to fight them... harrassing an underpaid prosecutor is not the way to do it.

And THIS is why I no longer post at Chaz. Only here would someone defend this piece of scum, in whose county puppy millers can feel free to torture animals until their hearts content. You have no idea what you're talking about. You know nothing about the situation, except what I have posted, yet you choose to take the side of the puppy miller. That makes me sick. I'll not ask for help here again because of people like you. People like you are the reason that so many have left this forum.

God forbid someone take some action to the desk of the person capable of actually ENFORCING something for once.

Why don't we let all the poor little prosecutors be when they aren't oh, I don't know . . . prosecuting?

It is an achievement that this puppy mill is shut down. If the prosecutor followed the law, it would be enough. To save time and energy, it would be better to go after the next puppy mill, if you know of it. Unfortunately, there are plenty of small breeders, which keep their dogs the same puppy mill style, deprived of free exercising, proper socialization and quality food.

Seriously???? Thank GOD not everyone has this narrow an opinion. Every possible step, including prodding those whose input is NECESSARY to bring these degernates to justice, is a step towards a solution.

I'm guessing you've never seen first hand the suffering that goes on.....:mad:

reading comprehension people.

I specifically stated that I was not defending the puppymill... that I do not agree with puppymills.

Sorry if I dont feel prosecutors are scum... that I SEE what a hard job they have and dont feel it is right to post their address all over the internet so a MOB sends them millions of letters.

This man is a PUBLIC OFFICIAL. The office he holds is an ELECTED POSITION. Everyone has the right to know how he does, or rather does NOT do his job, and to let him know their opinions on it. If he does not want public opinion, he should not hold a public office.

The very idea that you think it is OK for him to let these puppymillers get away with their abuse in neglect is sick. Authorities have 67 veterinary assessments proving that these animals were in need of urgent medical care. One pony had a broken hip yet was still forced to breed. Another was missing its eyeball. The dogs had mange, no teeth, parasites and were malnourished. Many had never seen sunlight, yet had birthed litter after litter of puppies.

You disgust me for even attempting to defend any of this situation.

However, it is not even clear if this man IS an elected official.
I highly doubt you spoke to the actual DA of the county... only they are elected... ADA's underneath them are hired not elected.

nice... personal attacks.

AGAIN... for your reading pleasure... I NEVER defended the situation... I do not support puppy mills... I have the effects of one in my home and since the day she came home we have dealt with the costly physical and emotional signs of it... we have paid the HUGE vet fees for the health effects and we have paid the price for her behavioral problems everytime we step out in public with her or a person walks into our home.

Agreeing with puppymills and seeing prosecutors as SCUM is not equivalent.

So now you're just assuming things that you know nothing about and assuiming who I did or didn't talk to and assuming that the office may not be an elected position. You know nothing. Therefore your opinion means nothing. edited by mod.

1. Do not talk about my intelligence... ill leave it at that for now.

2. if you want to continue the personal attacks there is ALOT i can say about you that I would prefer not to.

3. i am allowed to express my opinion if it helps 1 person to think better about prosecutors that is all that matters.

4. elected or not he has a hard job to do... until you have sat through a criminal procedure class or an evidence class you have no idea how hard it is to bring cases to court and how much evidence is needed to get a conviction... he knows much better then you if he can succeed or not.
