Chihuahua people are funny

-Smaller=Better.
- Chihuahuas cant DO anything other than be carried around, dog sports are for "bigger dogs"
- Chis are not dogs
- YOU HAVE TO DRESS THEM UP.. or else. lol
- Not being potty trained or in any way trained to do anything is OK. because they are small and cute
- My dog will feel bad if I dont spend a ridiculous amount of money on his wardrobe
- Anyone with a cute dog can breed their dog because chis only have 1-3 puppies usually and they are SOOO easy to find homes for
OMG thats me to a T :yikes:

We don't need the corgi herding instinct anymore, most never see livestock and therefore they should just be bred as good pets.
:wall::madgo:

Most of the corgi people I know are pretty cool, although perhaps slightly obsessed with the breed. One of the worst things though from corgi people is that they think they actually need to feed more because the dog is looking for food. And then they end up with a 50 pound corgi. Another is those who believe these dogs can't do much because they don't have legs.

Malinois?

That reactive with no off switch is good and desirable and correct.

OMG! I know!!! And then they freak out when they're dog looses some weight and his belly isn't dragging on the floor anymore! :yikes:

I was in petsmart the other day and the cashier said to me in these words exactly "I love the kinds of dogs with the legs so short their bellies drag on the ground" when she saw a dachshund that was either really fat or really pregnant (and it was NOT a good representation of the breed) with it's whole underside sliding along the ground. Yes sliding, not just dragging, it was fully on the ground...

I wanted to smack her AND the owner of that dog.

Another thing I've heard from owners of both breeds is that they don't really "need" training because everyone knows either breed is bound to be "the perfect family dog" by virtue of their breed alone.

So they get a cute and cuddly Lab or Golden pup and it gets little or nothing in the way of training ... they housebreak it but that's about it. Then they wonder WHY they end up with a big adolescent dog who counter surfs, raids the garbage anytime it smells like food, and jumps up on the kids and knocks them down.
Like duh ... train your dog and he/she won't do those things.
I have run across people like that too! People who are like "But he's a Lab! Shouldn't he be smart enough to house train himself?!". Or "He's a Lab! I thought Labs were naturally perfect and well behaved! I can't beleive he ate my couch!?.

Many people tend to think Goldens and Labs are "easy" breeds. They tend to forget they are working breeds with lots of energy. Its sad how many 6 month-1 year old Labs and Goldens I see on craigslist. And why are they there? Too much energy and destructive behavior.

It frustrates me. Because pretty much every Labrador book or website tells you to expect this behavior. Labs tend to keep their puppy mentality until they are 2-3 years old. And honestly it doesent take much to get them through those "puppy years" just some patience, understanding, and lots and lots of exercise and mental stimulation.

My friends are constantly saying how they can't beleive how well behaved Sawyer is (most of the time :p). And I just tell them it has taken alot of time with the occasional mistakes to get him where he is today. Not yet perfect but better behaved than most young Labs I know.

Border Collies are nuts and I shouldn't be using a BC mix as a service dog because she's going to freak out, chew through her leash and run around the store trying to herd people.

wowie people ive seen the extreemly "blonde" wowie owners, the ones who like fran said belive wowies are fashion acessories, uncapable of being real dogs, walking ect and spend more money dressing their dogs than on the dogs actual diet or health...

on the other hand theres the people on the other side of the extreem who think their wowies are "just like" big dogs, can live outside full time and dont understand the nuances of the breed...

its rare i meet the "normal" wowie owners who have that nice inbetween...(i think there all here on chaz lol)

with cresties i honestly havent met enough crestie people to realy form an opinion...most "strange" crestie comments come form people unfamiliar with the breed...

Border collie people are probably at the top of my list. There's a range of them and people on either end of the range make me want to bash my head open. Sheltie people would be next but for a different reason. Things like finding their neurotic dogs funny... *twitch*

Border Collie people... don't get me started.

First we have the working enthusiasts. While they are the ones out for the best interest of the breed, they are SO INTO their own beliefs that they become rancid elitists, turning their noses up at people who do anything but get a puppy from a working breeder. The attitudes I've seen on these people can be so vile that it makes people NOT want working BCs, which is the exact opposite of what they are striving for.

Sport people. Sigh. Faster faster faster FASTER! They treat heir dogs like Olympic athletes. Training hours a day, conditioning, vitamins and supplements, miniscule attention to injuries. The dog becomes less a dog and more a vehicle to attach titles to.

Show BCs... bred as fluffy black and white goldens by their owners. 'nuff said about those Border Collie people.

That said, I know wondrous, awesome people in both the working and sport fields as well. But this is about THOSE people, so... :D

This. ^^^

The lady who bred for flyball apparently thought my dog would break out because here BCs are bred for energy and nothing else- so they end up being dogs who have no "off switch" to speak of. They're obsessive with NO self control. They do pretty well in the sport but they're too hyperactive to do anything else. I know Border Collies, I know high energy- this is something so completely way over the top, something different. And she isn't the only one.

Seeing the Border Collie temperament transformed into a Bichon Frise temperament is just as bad, just in a different way.

I have a feeling I just typed a lot without saying much. :p

Chow people...hmm..

there are the ones who feel human aggression is normal. (it is not) They cannot understand that "aloof" does not mean "aggressive". If my dog is aloof (which Aesop is not, btw) they may ignore the company sitting on your couch. They do not go nip said company if the person looks at them funny. On a Chow board I go to, almost every bite must be a human's fault..

There are some who feel rescue is the only way to go. Those same people usually don't understand the difference between a byb Chow and a well bred one. In their minds, all breeder dogs are the same. I'm all for adoption, but I am also a fan of well bred dogs.

They can't be trained to do "stuff".

Not everyone is like that, and many on the board do have well mannered dogs, be they from rescues or breeders. But the other mindset is just annoying.

these people are the ones who scare me the most when it comes to the future of this breed. they're the "it's all in how you raise them" people who have young pit bulls who love the dogpark and then one day they "turn" and they're monsters and there is crying and hand-wringing and the dog is back at the shelter or dead, because how could their BABY turn into such a MONSTER!!!

they tend to be the people for whom dog aggression is absolutely unacceptable, period. they are against the breeding of pits with any kind of dog aggression. they insist that because there is no gene for dog aggression that it can't possibly be genetic in any way. they want a golden retriever in a pit bull suit because it's trendy to rescue pit bulls but they don't actually want to live with one.

yuck yuck yuck. while i really do much prefer the ADBA-type dog, man, that whole world is so scary to me. i know there are plenty of ADBA people who are smart, responsible, respectful people who love their dogs for what they are, but it seems like stupidity gets rewarded an awful lot. it's a different mindset for a lot of people, and i get that, but i don't like it. there's a difference between respecting the dog fighting history of the breed and glorifying it.

i'm a middle-grounder, too. i love my dogs and respect them for what they are. i love the pit bull breed, and while i don't love dog-aggression, i'll put up with it for the things that come with it.

it worries me how few like-minded pit bull people i actually run into in real life.
Agree with both of you! Those rescue type, IMO, are one of the biggest threat to the breed while the extreme immature gamedog people are the ones you just don't want to be near!

Well, Chihuahua people have been covered. I hate the breeding for tinyness and the idea that they are not capable of anything.

Crested people from what I've meet/talked to are really cool. There are a few people into them just because they attract attention, but overall, I've liked them.

Yes Allie I agree. Border Collie people are the worst. I love the breed a lot but I am really not in love with the people, honestly. They're a big turn off.
