Candidae was bought by Procter & Gamble about 6 months ago, according to our breeder. (Which I have been unable to confirm.)

Our breeder informed us of this a few weeks ago and said that P&G changed the formula to a cheaper and less benficial mix.

She suggested we switch to Eagle Pack, which the dog's love.

Another brand consumed and ruined, I guess. P&G is, I suppose, trying to absorb quality brand names, and instead of bringing up their own quality, will lower the quality of the brands that were an example.

We'll have to check and see if there's been an acquisition, or if Purina (or some competitor) is just starting a rumor.

Sure I just switch to this food only to find out it is not what it should be
I am keeping my fingers crossed that this is not true, but if it is I guess back to CSFTPLS for my girl.

Thats just great... We are and have been using Canidea for months now based on the great ingredients, I certainly would hate to have to change since my 2 yorkie boys have sensitive stomache's... Someone please let me know if this is true.

The ingredients on the bag I just purchased a week ago are the same that they were a year ago...is it possible to change the quality of ingredients and have them appear the same on the bag?? Too bad, I really like Canidae for my growing boy :(

I just visited the Proctor and Gamble webpage and they do not have Canidae listed as one of their foods. They just list Iams and Eukanuba.

i wouldn't throw out the baby with the bath water as long as there is no solid proof.

yes, the ingredient list changed at some point between december '03 and may '04 and canidae denied it was anything but "fixing typos" when i inquired (even tho i had solid proof), but changes like this don't necessarily mean that the company was bought up or anything.

a few months ago there was a rumor that eagle pack had been bought up, but it turned out to be a half truth. they had taken in some new financial investors, but nothing changed about the company itself and it did not become affiliated with any other pet food manufacturer.

I sent an email to P&G and got this reply today:

Thanks for contacting P&G.

I'm sorry for any confusion. P&G doesn't currently own this product. We do offer Iams Pet foods.

Stop by anytime.

Thanks Herschel!

Thanks for your reply - I think I did find them online and have sent a request about medical issues from long term use. Do you use their product or something else? Sorry, I don't remember reading what you use in the parts of the discussion I read:)

Candidae is privately owned by two folks

I called the company today. They are privately owned and have no intention of selling.

I feed Candidae to both my of two VERY SPOILED Black Standard Schnauzers. I can't tell you how many times people stop me to ask why their coats are so shiny. I think it is the quality dog food.

I must also add that my older girl, who is now seven is in excellent health; I attribute much of both dogs' health to the high quqality of the dog food.

I'd much rather spend money on good food than vet bills, not to mention peace of mind.

BTW, this food is made in America - so when you buy this food you are supporting jobs for Americans.
