breeds that will naturally stay with you

My cockers are CONSTANTLY following me around, but I know the minute they saw a cat or other small creature, they'd leave me to chase it in a heart beat(though now after training they do not do this).

You will definitely find breeds that are more willing to stay with there owners, but most of it comes down to training. ;)

My Belgian Tervuren, Riot has never gone more then 20 feet from me. i've taken him to numerous open fields, through thick wooded trails and he never goes out of eye sight, and if he does its only for a few moments and he'll come back to "check on me".

I think its all in how you train your dog as well. Riot and I played the "yo-yo" game(also a game with Pat Parelli for horses, works wonders!)
Whenever Riot came to me, he got a treat, when he went too far, I'd run the other way and he'd chase after me. I did this ever since he was 12 weeks old and he'll never leave my side now.

I've always wondered if there are such things as a type of breed of dog that always stays beside you natrually. like for example if you went out for a walk for the first time that dog would stay with you right beside you. That would be cool
My Beardie and my Beardie/Border? mix both dog my heels in the house, and run like hyenas the second they're out the door. They'd both circle back, but it takes skill and cunning to get your hands on them again. My husky/terrier mix would virtually ignore me inside, but outside seemed to feel that we were on patrol together, and could generally be counted on to stay nearby.

The only time my Filas stray from my side outdoors is if Kharma sees cows that need to be herded up together  After she's done, she comes right back . . . Shiva will stay close no matter what unless I tell her to go with Bimmer.

Rocky, my German shepherd does that. Also, my friends from socialization classes GSD's will do the same thing. They'll either stay by them most of the time or go play and then check back.

Also when I take him out to use the bathroom in my unfenced yard, he can easily leave and run away, but never does. And he's always either following me or my dad.

My Coton du Tuliar will follow dad everywhere. He still does. Liberty really is dad's shadow. I think the breed is known for doing this. :)

I've always lived with GSD's, and every one I've had were reliable anywhere off leash. In the house, they are huge velcro dogs, if not glued to your leg, they have this "need" to know exactly what your doing. My two aussies are the same way, (especially my very nosey female)..However, I find my aussie who has alot of prey drive, can easily flip me the paw, if there is some "varmint" around, where the GSD's while prey driven, probably respect me more and drop on a dime..

My very first golden was hardly ever on leash.... we'd walk 5 miles to town and he would sit/stay when I went into a store. At 14 , I didn't know better, but it worked ! Bubba would always stay with me... when I first got Chip, he ran ... now he's better, will check things out, but knows his job is to get the paper of the mail.

some breeds have more inclination to wonder/roam (terriers, northern breeds, hounds, and others) than some other breeds such as herders (and others)...but I think even among the less inclined breeds to roam it is highly dependant on the individual dog. I have a german shepherd who is always either right by my side or circling me and never roaming more than about 30ish feet away (when we are in a place I know he can safely be off leash). but I know other german shepherds who will vanish at the first chance they get. a friend of mine when I was a teenager had a alaskan malamute (well known wonderers) who wouldnt wonder more than about 30 feet away from them.

I don't know this first hand but.....From my recent research on Vizslas seem to show they are very clingy. I have read in several places they are nicknamed the "Velcro" dog.

Hope that helps

Roxie and Brutus are both close to me dogs. Even Maggie doesn't wander that far. I guess the velcro only stretches so far with my dogs. lol I can't even go to the restroom without Brutus knocking on the door. Roxie used to do the samething, but noe that she is older I am allowed that time alone. Bless her heart. My son locked Brutus outside of our gate and he stood there wanting in. I guess the velcro was stretched too tight.:D
