Hank makes that shrieking noise.
Yea I never quite understood what people meant when they said their dogs "screamed" until I got Toast. It's amazing to me that after only a couple of days it's already starting to fade into background noise for me. :p

With Lincoln it's the barking, he barks at the goats, donkeys, horses, the cattle when we go on a walk, he barks at his toys, sticks, the other dogs etc ... is it weird that I think it's cute?

Bulldogs/Bostons/Pugs/other brachycephalic dogs that snort or snore or make any other noises like that. I pity a lot of them.

I wouldn't say Jackson is a huge barker in general (like he doesn't bark at leaves blowing by) but oh MY his alert bark, well I should probably just call it an alert shriek. It's not pleasant. He's the loudest at my dads house with the other dogs and a lot going on outside. They all hate my dogs vocal chords :rofl1:

I'd say my short list includes:
Boxers
Retrievers of all varieties
Companion breeds

Breeds that are typically "velcro" aren't really my go to breeds. With my lifestyle and personality, I'm most likely going to hurt one of those types of dog's feelings. High energy I can deal with. Blowing me off I can deal with and not living to please me, I can deal with.

What I can't deal with is a dog that constantly invades my space. A dog that is bouncy, I LOVE EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING wears my patience extremely fast and leads me to frustration in a hot minute. If a dog needs to look to me for direction before it does anything is going to hate life with me.

Well, Doodles. Haven't ever met a Doodle I felt affectionate towards.

Also, poodles, as it turns out. I really wanted to like standard poodles, but I've never met one that I liked.

I don't really like labs, or bichons. There are loads of horrible little bichons around here. Yappy, aggressive, and awful.

I havent either, I cant see how people live with them, or why anyone ever thought this was a good cross after seeing how they turned out -_-.

Which puzzles me, because goldens are smart, trainable dogs, poodles are smart, trainable dogs, one of the smartest in fact ... so in theory they should make this ... awesome uber smart cross, right ... nope.

My biggest deal breakers are physical more than anything else. No brachy breeds, no dwarf breeds, nothing smaller than 15lbs or larger than 70lbs, nothing that sheds insane amounts, nothing that needs a full body shave every month or two. I could deal with pretty much any medium sized moderate dog, even if it wasn't my first choice breed.

We have an 8-month-old at work right now that just...doodles around aimlessly. He doesn't bark, he doesn't play with anyone or interact with people or other dogs, and just sort of frolics around obliviously like a butterfly with a big nasty beard. Doodley doodley doodley.

(Legitimately laughing at these replies LOL)

Uh, appearance-wise: English Bulldogs.
Personality-wise: English Bulldogs. and shibas and airedales

Giant dog bullies at dog parks, the lot of them. Every single time, different dogs, same breeds.

I don't want to own any tiny breeds. Although, when I'm old, I've thought about owning a pug or a schipperke.

I don't really want to own a weimeraner, or a vizsla. I have met both breeds at the kennel and they are nutballs, lol. I'm also not really into spaniels, too many health issues. And Brittanys, no thanks. All they do is hump! There was only one Brittany who boarded at work who wasn't either a nutball or a humper and he died recently. :(

Ooh, I'm also not really into terriers. Too barky :p

Ugh my grandma's goldendoodle to a tee. He's so loveable but... I just don't really like him lol. Sweet but just entirely TOO doofey for me. You could be yelling in his face, hitting him, whatever and he probably could care less and still just look at you like you're the greatest thing on the planet. And the odd thing is I love most Goldens even when they are overly friendly etc, but there's something different about the goldendoodles/labradoodles that I just cannot stand.

The only poodle-mix 'breed' I really like are the cockapoos. Now maybe I'm biased because we have one (she's my moms dog but for all intensive purposes, is turning into mine) and they have one before her as well and I've met lots at the dog park and I just love them all. Even though I'm not a big fan of Cockers or Poodles on their own. lol. So weird. But she really has a stellar temperament so far. Not a dog I would've chosen for myself but dang I really am loving her.

Not arguing, because it's totally ok to not like spaniels, but just wanted to say that they don't really have a lot of health problems. Most spaniels breeds are actually quite healthy.
I was thinking that too. I think the main ones I hear of are the cavaliers that have so many issues. Although most Cockers I know of have a lot of issues too.

For some reason, claiming health issues is the number one go to for not liking a type of dog, breed, etc.

German shepherds have too many health issues, too..

It's like people don't understand that you can drastically reduce any chance of genetic health problems by TESTING for them before breeding...

My preferences are typically based on temperament or looks. I love the looks of most sporters, but absolutely cannot stand most of their personalities and quirks. I like so many of them as puppies and then they just get.... weird. Not sure if it's a genetic thing or environmental, really. Anxious to see how my dude turns out.

I actually really love viszlas. Not terribly likely I'd own one but I really really like them. To me they're really different than the weims I know. I have not really liked very many weims.

I dislike any brachycephalic breeds.

I mean, yes, vaguely this is health issue related, but honestly, I just can't stand the constant snorting and general unathleticness of most of them (not all, of course). I'd just never want to own a snorting, lumbering dog, who I would constantly be paranoid over that they are choking or something.

I'm also not a fan of super small dogs such as chihuahuas or yorkies. They seem to breakable to me. I much prefer medium or large sized dogs.

I'll say yup to this. As mine have aged, they've developed conditions that require medical attention but it's all been manageable enough to let them lead a long life. Most Springers I know make it well into their teens. 15 is not an uncommon age to live to, with common geriatric care.
