There is a bird in our fireplace... I have no idea what to do! I can't let it out until someone gets home, and I don't want it to get hurt! No fire in there, no worries, but I don't want it to injure itself. Mods feel free to move this post. ;) Thank you for reading!

It should fly back up ..... otherwise open the flue and welcome it into your house !

turn off the lights and use a sheet to catch the bird. THey don't see it as a moving wall and your able to drop it over the bird and secure it without causing harm.

Light a fire? No I'm just kidding and being facetious...

Turning the lights out and getting birdy with a sheet is the best way to do it as Smkie said...probably the safest way to remove it without injuring it.

with no lights she will hold still...and make sure if you can to pull the curtains shut or shut the blinds so if the bird does get loose in the house it will not harm itself running into the window.

We had a bird fly into the house once. It flew around for about 30 minutes, hitting the ceiling, and left feathers everywhere. Eventually, it made it's way back outside. If the bird doesn't leave you can always look in the phone book under Pest services, there may be someone there that can help. Some of those companies deal with wildlife.

Thank you everyone! The birdie is now outside safely. :) She was in there for a while, so when Bruce got home we both released it with a sheet. Thank you everyone!
